I am not as concerned about the height, weight and quickness of our pg as much as just being able to play the position as we need. As we saw last year one of the most effective point gaurds in the country last year was only 5'8". Obviously there is a wish list for the optimum point gaurd but there is more than one size and one way to be a good point gaurd. We just need one of ours to be that guy for us. It sounds like that may be happening with Ty and DGL.I agree...but I'm in a quandry....is the glass half empty or half full.....some on here are worried that Ty will have trouble handling the ball and staying with quicker guards....some are worried that DGL doesn't weigh enough (reportedly 180#) and will struggle handling bigger stronger guards, fighting through screens etc....some think that Harmon hasn't enough experience against high caliber guards to compete....some think that Harris can't shoot, and will be lucky to make a dozen FT's all season long.....these are all questions to be answered...but each of these guards bring certain skills to the team that could and I think will give other teams match up problems....rather than being limited to one certain type of guard style or play... we have several guards with different skills that I think puts us in a very good position going into this season....JMO
I'd expect both harris and rodgers to revert to their high school mean regarding free throw percentage. I'm marking the freshmen numbers as anomalies. One of my biggest concerns for the team. How often does a player have significant improvement in FT shooting or 3 pt shooting? It's one reason I could see DGL getting minutes as secondary PG at the start of the season, but earning a lot more minutes, crucial minutes at the end of games, later in the season. Door is open IMO --not sure how it will play out.
They play different defenses on FT’s in HS?
It's honestly kind of true though. You have a better shooters background I'm high school with the wall behind the basket vs the giant stadiums you play in D1.
Sorry, I'll include the /s next time.
No one (actually more than some) seemed that worried about our five star frosh PG last year but it didn’t work. Why do I believe DGL will be a lot better out of the gate. Think it is an attitude thing. One with stars and one with a chip on his shoulder. Sticking with frosh Belo who can shoot. Think he and Buck can lock down PU’s guards. Tough for Edey to score if he can’t get the ball.I am not as concerned about the height, weight and quickness of our pg as much as just being able to play the position as we need. I would assume NIL ,or, lack there of in West Lafayette, but I'm just guessing. Why did Purdue back out from him?
That and he seems very excited about the freshmen.Biggest takeaway from that was talking about Domask being able to guard 4s.
I think with that we will see a bunch of small ball lineups with Coleman at the 5 and some combination of Shannon, Goode, Domask, Rodgers, and Harmon.
I have an auto-record set up for Illini. I get some cool stuff that way.I wish they would do a better job promoting in advance that it was Illinois day on BTN. I would have loved to record that.
There’s just something about our players and their families fishing that seems so normal and humble. This brings back good memories of Rob Jordan talking about fishing.
I think after seeing the "hottest" of the Purdue cheerleaders he is the one who backed out.
Well, I've spent the last two years in the Bar Car on the CoHawk train....I guess now I have to choose between the.....Sleeper Car....on the DGL Express, or the Observation Car on the Amani Train.
Purdue's pony can win a lot of games tho. And the freshman point guards who got a ton of minutes last year taking the sophomore leap should make them better than last year.Would be absolutely shocked if this team finishes the entire year with less than 26 wins. They’re the most experienced & talented team top to bottom in the big ten by a wide margin.. only other team that compares is MSU. Purdue is a 1 trick pony.
Yep, that's the joke. They play different defenses on FT’s in HS?
I don't know how much time he gets unless he has dramatically improved his ball skills and shooting and decision making. I think he is a kid who looks to transfer if he is not a main 15 -18 mpg guy. Right now with the alleged development of DGL and the guys ahead of him he will not get very many minutes. Show me where the minutes are at the 1/2. We are not playing 11 guys. We will not play 10 guys significant minutes unless an injury after cupcake season.Harris an absurdly good athlete and I love the way he plays since he's tough and unafraid of contact. He is so so fast on the break where he basically just can outrun everyone.
However I didn't see him showcase any skills offensively last season. He struggled to handle the ball at this level and his shot looked broken. Going 4/20 from the line is almost incomprehensibly bad for a D1 guard.
Hopefully I'm wrong because if he can handle the ball and shoot then he's going to the NBA.
Your last point about not being able to play Harris and Rodgers on the floor at the same time is correct but I'd extend that to Dain too.I don't know how much time he gets unless he has dramatically improved his ball skills and shooting and decision making. Our offense was abysmal at times last year (68th in country). You cannot play 4 on 5 except for spot minutes. If Ty cannot take an open 15 footer or threeball, you can't ever have them both on floor at same time.
I bought my stock a while ago and have been on pulling the wagon along. I think the dude is an elite athlete and is going to surprise the heck out of people this year.I would buy some stock on DGL before the bandwagon starts here soon
I did as well many moons ago after watching his highlights, dude is a baller and bucket getter. Hope he excels here and gets some tic this year.I bought my stock a while ago and have been on pulling the wagon along.
