Every position of this team is built with rebounding in mind. It is eye opening how much opens up with a team like that. Prior to Quincey finding his stroke there honestly have been a ton of missed good looks from most of the starters yet they still are handling teams with authority because they get them back. If Domask hits half of his wide open 3s yesterday (not unreasonable with how absolutely open they were) they win by 40. I’m very impressed with how much Brad stuck to his vision and followed it through. How much should we thank Jalen Pickett for those beat downs because Brad certainly took notice.

Is it crazy to think that road games at Purdue & MSU are really the only games I don’t think we can/should win? OSU & Wisconsin are both good but quite frankly, they ain’t us. If we can pick off MSU or Purdue on the road, a B1G title is ours to lose with Purdue already dropping one to Northwestern….

The likelihood of us going something like 19-1 or 18-2 in conference probably isn’t going to happen… but we should be favored in, 17, 18 of our remaining games?

Man, there was a LOT of keystrokes dedicated to our lack of a true PG this summer. I'm glad there haven't been many since the season started.
We still don't have a true point, BUT in absence of that, we have multiple guys that can handle the ball, which works. Guard, by committee, can work. It goes back to the whole theory of positionless basketball. BU has guys who have learned their roles and have embraced it. I love Ty crashing the boards and getting us second chances. What he lacks in scoring, he makes up in keeping possessions alive.

This is a good year for the Illini to get Purdue twice. With limited opportunities in the B1G for statements I am excited to see how we compete in those

Our first 4 games were our worst performances of the season. If you take those 4 out, Torvik has us ranked #3 and one spot ahead of Purdue.

But here's the catch...If you keep looking you see...

#6 Wisconsin
#8 tOSU
#10 MSU

That's 5 B1G teams in the top 10. Maybe the B1G isn't as bad as people claim. The conference is #2 on Torvik behind the the BIG 12.

The perception of the Big Ten changed last weekend with Purdue beating AZ, MSU demolishing Baylor, and OSU beating UCLA even though they’re down this season.

It’s more of a March thing with no tourney winner since 2000.

I say this knowing it may just be the Orange Cool-Aid coming out, but I told my best friend the same exact thing. I truly believe that this team can beat anyone in the country. I have watched a good bit of ball, and there is not a single team that scares me.

Oh, I don't know, one or another of our resident rocket scientists bring it upon almost every post game thread . . .

Agreed. Ty is very much a work in progress as a PG. But you've got Damask and TSJ who help a lot with PG duties. And Ty makes it up in other significant ways - beast defensively on D and on the boards.

PG by committee frequently doesn't work out. But this group is so cohesive that it's working thus far for us.

When the staff was not able to convince Dennis to man the PG spot for the Illini, I was skeptical but hopeful and did not spend much time lamenting the "ideal" makeup of the team. Hoping that DGL might step up or Marco Polo could be found decent, I was not disappointed that BU put his faith in Ty who is a humble, as well as a talented and tenacious, team guy who could cause defensive chaos on the perimeter, provide rebounding savvy, knew what a B1G campaign involved, and was eager to learn and help his team WIN. My only lingering doubt was how the team would perform against a good press. What we have seen, most importantly, this "old" team understands and seems confident they can get it done. Knocking on wood, so far they have not been hurt critically by a press and I hope we will see, as BU stated in the postgame presser, a team that hopes to be pressed full court.

What we have learned is that the chemistry and will of this team is special and we will live and die with what we have NOW. There are three aged and talented starters who will get a shot at an NBA roster or two, and all three have really improved their skill-sets toward that goal.

That said, I am pretty certain we all see the x-factor this team needs to perform against the elite...DD. I cannot imagine that he does not understand the importance of what he needs to do...and do it now. He a two year head start on Amani and skills to succeed on the offensive end that AH may never have. Like many of us here, I sure would like to mentor him and I am certain BU understands far beyond any of us and is trying to do just that. Let's hope the light goes on and he embraces the importance of being a critical part of this team SOON. This can be a very special season...if the injury bug can be exterminated.

Bit of trivia but TSJ has lowest average rebounds (4.5) of the starters and he is an elite rebounder. That’s part of the defense that travels.

Probably why Brad seems to really dial in on that with him from what I’ve heard from interviews TSJ gives

Our games against MSU might come without Fears playing for them. Reports are that he was shot in the leg and underwent surgery. I wish the young man a quick and complete recovery.

Just saw that. He and another guy were shot. Sucks

As long as 3 out of the 4 guys on the floor whether it be TSJ, TY, CH, Domask(especially CH when plays like he did yesterday) keep the offense moving like we did last night they function as an above avg pt guard and our offense is deadly.
