Thanks, @pruman91. An excellent, well-written article detailing Coleman’s rise. Great read!

His mom is off of her rocker. Not sure DGL share's the same thoughts as mom, just an fyi
I hope you're right. I think he can be a great Illini and get paid to play the game!!

Look at the examples of Skyy Clark vs Sencire Harris.
Skyy is probably getting paid OK, but not developing like a 5 start should.
Sencire is learning and growing, and developing for his after Domask & Harmon are gone.

If he leaves, the Illini will fill his spot (maybe Monday). But I think it will hurt him professionally

The problem is there is not a great selection of orange apparel. A lot of decent navy and gray merch but half the orange stuff looks like it's from Kmart.

I do agree though. Orange should be the standard garb for fans. I think Weber started that when he got here and somewhere along the lines it kind of fell by the wayside.
Most of my apparel is orange...always has been. Then again, I'm an oldster who goes back 60 years or so with my fandom. If you buy reputable brands such as Nike or Cutter and Buck orAshcroft, you won't go wrong.

Yeah, I tend to stick to Nike for the most part. On GameDay they have:

3 orange t-shirts
2 orange long-sleeved shirts
1 orange polo
1 orange hoodie
1 orange crewneck

Around 20% of their offerings are orange. So there are some decent options. Just not many.

Why would DGL not redshirt if, at best, he was likely to get only 5-10 minutes per game?

Hate the public drama from Mom. Don't care for the insider chatter about these things either.

That said, a big part of the job for coaches going forward is going to be retention. That will often start with recruiting the guys who can be coached up and into a system. Yes, the portal can ease things. But last year's portal result was mediocre. The lack of continuity really hurt. This year, with lots more continuity and the right guys, we're looking like a top 10 team.

Next year, we're back to a huge amount of turnover. We really need to keep every decent to good player we can.

From your list, I'd say that Curbelo and RJ are guys whose time to leave had come. Definitely wish we could have kept Miller. Definitely Podz. I'm torn on Epps.

I need someone to explain this to me.
How do we not do the minimum to keep DGL interested?

I mean he was a recruit we wanted right? I know he wanted to get older but I can't imagine coach is so frosh sensitive due to recent experiences that he would make a mistake here. Something goofy happen at practice? He is too talented a player not to get some minutes I think.

Those that may have an idea please inform.

Keeping him interested just doesn't matter. He's not good enough to not play our best players

If he leaves, he will be replaced

In regards to DGL, question for the insiders. Does coach sit down with these before a game/week etc and let them know they aren’t likely to get minutes and they need to work on XYZ in practice to get better? Or is it just sort of unspoken?

There’s probably some fine detail stuff /defensive lapses that are happening in practice we’re not privy to

Yup. A nice aspect of modern college hoops is that coaches who know how to navigate the portal don’t have to play politics anymore. Unless we’re talking about a bonafide top-shelf recruit that will likely be big time down the road (think Xavier booker at MSU), if a player isn’t earning minutes but demands more, the door will be shown. DGL I think will be a good player in a couple years, and I hope he stays, but he’s not irreplaceable.

The issue is we have a handful of lunatics on here who don't think Underwood can keep a recruit and has a major turn over problem when it comes to retaining players. A DGL transfer will fan the flames. DGL has a Trent Frazier fire and desire, but has a certain immaturity to his game that is unmistakable. brad didn't want to play Trent early on but Trent left him no choice. DGL... He feels his only value is in scoring points and as a result forces up shots in order to prove his worth. Having an immature game accompanied with an Immature work ethic is what generally leads to a recruit hitting the portal. A few have gone elsewhere and done okay.. only 1 has been the major what if (podz). But the reality for most who have left, Brads fart noise is sufficient.

Really surprised how many folks out there are concerned about potential “chemistry” issues or what potential repercussions could come of throwing TJ back into the lineup. I’m not getting it. It’s not like he’s been out for an extended period of time and it’s not like this group hasn’t played together?

Funny. You kinda described last years debacle.bend over backwards for Skyy. Show Podz the door.

I'm not second guessing BU's. Could be lots going on that I don't know.

But idea that the revolving door comes with no problems is ludicrous.

My take would be that effort in practice would result in PT in games with a big lead absent other problems.

Seeding takes care of itself if I dropped a line in the bracket over marginof victory but kept my players happy and returning I'd take it.
