Would be so lucky to have him back but everything I've read says he is ready to be done with college and move on. Marcus seems to (potentially) be another story.
Yeah me too but TSJ was in a similar spot last year as was Hawkins for thar matter and sometimes money in your pocket can change things. Knowing your NBA ready, and thinking your NBA ready, and being willing to bet hundreds of thousands of dollars on it just may effect that choice. Ayo did his thing, Kofi left, and TSJ came back. I hope they feel they made the right choices and I think TSJ coming back paid off for him and Hawkins fir that matter. They both improved but its up in the air if Hawkins would be selected. Being projected around 50 is not a sure thing. Whatever choice Hawkins makes I hope its the best one for him in the long run financially and done based on good information. We would certainly love him back and he no doubt can make a lot if money on NIL. The NBA is possible but far from a sure thing. I hope he makes the best choice. I enjoyed Hawkins this season and he is much much improved.

WRT to next season, gotta assume we're going to press for an early decision on Domask's waiver. Don't want to be stuck in a holding pattern while the NCAA is deciding. Football found out virtually immediately after the seasons ended that DeVito's and Daxon's waivers were denied. I'd imagine that the paperwork has been assembled and will be submitted soon.
It looks like he played in 10 of SIU's 26 games in his injury year. Don't know how he would qualify for a redshirt.

I was going to say Nick Weatherspoon. In his 3 years he averaged 20.9 ppg (before the 3pt) and 11.3 rbs/gm. These are the all-time record for career per game averages for both scoring and rebounds for the Illini. His senior year was 25.0 and 12.3. For comparison, Kofi's career numbers were 17.2 and 9.6 with his best and last year being 20.9 and 10.6.
This was during my youth , but I do remember the teams during the early 1970s were frustrating to watch (and not just because the TV was in black and white and it looked like they were playing in a snowstorm) with Weatherspoon being almost the entire show. Since Weatherspoon's teams had marginal records, he would have probably been more revered if we had been more competitive during that time. Of course he may not have had those numbers on a better team.
Career averages are likely to be better for a player who plays years 2, 3 and 4 than they are for a player who plays years 1, 2 and 3.
Spoon's rebound averages were uncommon for two reasons. First, he wasn't very tall and, second, he shared the court with Nick Conner who was also a very good rebounder (not to mention that rebounding machine Bill Rucks). :)

a D1 player who played 10 games one season got a waiver (don't remember who, but it happened in the past year)
That could be possible. I think the rule refers to 30% of a team's games in a season. If a team makes a run in March they could play 34 games or more (which would make 10 games < 30% of the season total).

Maybe in the Covid year, he could argue that but for cancellation of the conf. tourney and NCAA tourney, SIU would have played 31 games?🤔

Hypothetically speaking, what if the regular season ends like this?

- Illini finish 1st...
- Huskers finish 3rd....
- Gophers finish 5th...

Who gets named Big 10 Coach of the Year?

If TSJ is not BIG10 player of the week tomorrow don’t be surprised he is left off of the 1st team all Big10 team

Regarding Hawkins moving on, I think he’s the guy that’s going to jump at the combine & in the exhibitions. He’s not a highlight guy. He plays at a different speed. He’s an acquired taste. They will see it.

He just does too much and can shoot the 3. Very happy he is figuring himself out.. Unlimited potential

He does a lot but basketball is a global game now more than ever. Plus guys also guys above him in the G League. When I look at bleacher report mocks there are just so many guys. To be one of the top 45 or so players used to mean you were one of the top 40 or so players in college basketball which I feel Hawkins is being 2nd or 3rd team All B10 most likely but now being in the top 45 or so drafted that number is likely closer to be the top 30 or maybe even less since there are so many players outside of just college. It will be a very difficult choice for him. One I think TSJ made the correct choice by coming back and likely improving from last year being late 30s or 40s to 20s this year. Maybe Hawkins could improve his stock in a similar fashion. Its going to be a tough and big decision for him id think.
