That last part is so true. Not to take anything away from Shannon, Goode, Ty or anyone else who came back, but … Hawkins is a bridge between the Frazier class AND he’s a key player. Immensely valuable.
Will never forget this moment from Coleman postgame after the Arkansas loss. Thank you for coming back and getting the culture back on track. None of this happens without you. Every Day Guy For Life.

Has Hawkins announced that he won’t be returning next year? Or are we just assuming?
It’s for sure time for Coleman to go to the NBA. He would not gain anything from another year in college. He WILL get drafted and he WILL make an NBA roster. He looks very much like an NBA player with a lot of unique skills. He may not ever be a super star in the NBA but he for sure will be a very good player of the bench at a minimum.
On the other hand, if he continues to improve (which more than just about any player I have seen at Illinois) at the same rate he has year after year he could be a real star in the league. I will get roasted for saying this but I remember Magic coming out of school and he was not nearly as good a shooter as Coleman. Now Magic was only a sophomore, but his ability to handle the ball and guard any position was unique. In one finals he played center because Jabar was injured and the lakers won with a 6’9” center.
In no way am I saying Coleman is Magic, but he does have some similarities. He would need to continue to improve, but if I am an NBA team and I can draft a 6’10” player who can handle the ball, pass, is a very solid shooter, guards pretty much any position and just seems to keep getting better? I would really take a look at that. He is a very unique player.

The studio is actually at the top of 600 W Chicago in the City in River North. The old mechanical room that housed the building's chillers when Montgomery Ward still occupied the building had 20+ feet ceiling heights which made its use as a studio a perfect fit.

Maybe, but if he is a first round draft choice the NIL money is not going to out weigh the kids desire to play in the league.In today's NIL environment, he could have something to gain.

For sure. To be clear, I don't think Coleman will be back. I was more generally taking issue with the "they have nothing else to gain with another year" comment. That used to be true, but NIL changes that.
Wish he could defend. Not a knock but a sincere wish.

Thought it would be interesting to visually profile the "rating" versus "ranking" of D-I teams on offense and defense this year. This lets you quickly see how different two teams are (rating) based on their position in the world (ranking).
For example - you have to look about 25 teams down to get 10 points of offensive efficiency worse than the best team, but then about 125 teams beyond that to get another 10 points worse.
Also interesting: the spread across D-I is wider on offense than on defense.
- Across all of D-I, the range of ability is 38% wider on offense than on defense
- Neglecting the extremes (best/worst 50 teams for each), the range is still 23% wider on offense.
Also interesting to note the flat spots in the defensive ratings around 50th and again around 100th. It's just coincidence, but the latter is right where we live now. So even more than normal in the "mid-pack", tiny fluctuations in our AdjDE could cause us to rise or drop 5-10 spots.
If Hawkins wants to get drafted, this is the year to go. Very weak draft.

I agree, but man ... it just sucks we have come up just short in all of our biggest tests. I initially thought we at least got FAU in the bag, but they have really fallen apart. As I posted in the Bracketology thread, we have a winning record against teams currently projected in the Tournament ... but we are 0-3 vs. #1 seeds (Purdue x2 and Kentucky) and 0-1 vs. #2 seeds (Marquette). Those are the opponents we will play if we get past the Second Round - something identified by many as a sort of bare minimum expectation for a group this talented. While the Sweet Sixteen is the ultimate goal right now and therefore a clear success, it would be devastating to come up short of an Elite Eight run that was there for the taking because we just can't hit the late shots. TSJ, Coleman and Domask are starting down the end of their college careers ... let's hope one of them catches Deron Williams Fever and hits the huge shots we need this March!
This year Coleman Hawkins 3PT% went up 10%, FT% up 20% from his averages, ~40% fewer TOs, in the conversations for B1G DPOY! He put in the work! I love what that shows for our culture.
All that to say, I think this is the kind of season the pro scouts were looking for from him.

They could make a run but half of field of 68 feels that the lack of a point guard will hurt us. Not that I care. I don't remember the guy's name but that has been his reason for his insistence that we will be defeated in the round of 32. Last night, the jerk has a Purdue hat on. Also, you must mean Tennessee. We have not played Kentucky YET.

I am so sick of the point guard narrative....we have the number 2 offense in the nation. Show me a PG who has the ball in his hands as much as Marcus does and I bet he has a higher turnover %.
