Ty I think is in some ways underrated by our fanbase because we have seen the games he just can't play in. There are certain matchups he was unplayable last year. Even with that, he was third on the team in raw plus minus, third on the team in Box plus minus, and third on the team in regular adjusted plus minus. Basically the team was a lot better with him on the floor. I'm sure Brad knows that, which is why he got a lot of minutes last season and I expect the same this season.

Couldn't you tie that in with the fact that we didn't have a true PG? Ty's role was being a primary ball handler in most cases. I don't see that happening this year again.

Domask took over as the primary ballhandler and Ty still started every game.
He was a bad matchup in certain situations and left a sour taste with his disasterclass against UConn.
But everybody seems to be forgetting the postgame threads where we were like "Ty had 6 points and was the best player on the floor", and also when we got so frustrated with him being sat in favor of Harmon in crunch time.
So long as his lack of shooting isn't gumming up the gears of the offense (and it shouldn't given how strong our shooting is elsewhere especially in the frontcourt), he needs to be out there for all the things he provides.
And I felt like that was the consensus opinion around here during the season, but that seems to have disappeared as we project next year, and I find that as perplexing as it is analytically misguided.
BU loves Ty, he's going to play a ton and probably start.

Ty’s a guy who started and played 23 minutes a game without taking a shot further than 10 feet from the basket for a team that was *still* top 5 in offensive efficiency.
I think you may see Ty initiate the offense some this year depending on matchups...I could see Ty bringing the ball into the front court and then getting the ball into Boswells hands and allowing him to penetrate the lane for shots or assist to someone underneath or on the perimeter and this would also allow Ty to rome towards the basket for offensive rebounds and put backs...now at the end of the game where you need the ball in the hands of a good FT shooter it will be Bos....Ty not so much

In college bball the stats indicate a team must play decent defense and score on offense over 70 points to have a chance to win the game. Teams that have a +18 AdjEM average around 20 victories while those teams with a +10 AdjEM average around 10 victories at the end of February/beginning of March. Especially true for road games.

I am excited about the ceiling of this freshmen class as much as anybody, but I believe there are players who are being overlooked that are going to be ready THIS SEASON to come much closer to their "ceiling". They might not ultimately have as high a ceiling as the freshmen class but they will be ready to produce NOW. DGL leads the way in that category. I think the sophomore class will be interesting to watch.

Word from practices last year painted DGL as a tenacious defender, but also a fouling machine. It would be nice if Brad schedules Mr. Trent Frazier to spend time with Dra for some workouts and Zenlike training - because if you're talking ceiling, that's where I see DGL's to be.
I agree with you in general. Perimeter quickness might be an issue for us. FWIW KJ is listed anywhere from 6'2 to 6'6, so he's likely in the "smaller than 6'6 category." I think DGL will have to play some minutes just because Kylan and KJ are the only real guards on this team. Sure Ty "could" play some 1 and White "could" play some 2, but both guys are more 3s or even 4s.
KJ measured at 6-5 1/2 without shoes.

I think Boswell and Ty will start in November. Some combination of Humrichous, Morez, Ivisic, Jakucionis, Riley and White fill the other three positions. There is going to be really intense competition for those spots.
I also think that the five starters in March will be different than the five starters in November.
DGL, Booth and Davis are going to have to fight hard for minutes.

He's a great shooter and the oldest guy on the team and will play a lot.
But people overcooked their takes about him back when that's what was needed for the day's "optimistic" narrative before we added a bunch more terrific players.
If Humdinger were our alpha dog we'd be cooked. But he's going to be in a supporting role he's perfect for.

Ben’s last season stats are very impressive. The 41.4% on the three ball I suspect is better than anyone on the Illini team.
Brad said that in summer scrimmage Ben’s got a better game than the coaches thought.
At 6’9” he will be able to shoot over a perimeter defender. He will be a great player.
