I don't think a projected one-and-done (Will Riley) who reclassified can be kept out of the starting 5.

Probably not… but as we’ve learned with Underwood, who starts is not as important as who finishes.

It's hard for me to imagine a starting 5 without Ivisic. But I guess time will tell. These summer workouts will tell the coaches a lot.

We have an interesting “problem” this year. A bunch of Alpha-wired guys who have come here expecting to start for this team. Boz, Humrichous, Riley, and KJ weren’t brought here to be bench guys. Ty as the only returning starter and program guy likely expects to start as well. That’s 5 five guys “starting” and we haven’t added the center yet (I expect Tomi or perhaps Rez). However, as it has been said countless times, Brad doesn’t care about who is starting.
My guess is it will all shake out in practice and may change several times throughout the year. I can see 8 guys getting significant minutes (20ish) with perhaps 2 others getting spot minutes on the regular and possibly 1-2 guys getting over 30 minutes per game.

I don't think starting lineup matters much this year. Whether Riley starts or comes off the bench, he'll be getting a good 20+ mpg regardless. I have him coming off the bench to start the season, but he could easily be starting as well whether it be later in the season or even from day 1. I just see minutes being split a lot more than in a normal year, and whether you wind up getting 24 minutes as a starter or 24 off the bench, so long as there's buy in and chemistry it just shouldn't matter much.
We're very likely to have 8 players all getting 15+ mpg, all of whom would start on almost all NCAA teams and 2 additional ones on the bench that would be at least in the rotation for most teams. Game will respect game in this case. As such, I see players caring less this year about who the starters are and caring a lot more about who's closing games out.

So many good options at all the positions and any of the above posters could be right about the starting line up. But to Brad it’s who finishes. The roster is so deep , I’m already looking forward to this season as much or more than the 88-89 Flying Illini

I can see underwood telling it straight… that to get transfers in, some expect to start even though it’s not guaranteed. For better team chemistry I can see Ty on the bench, and then spot starts throughout the season.
