Torvik......Projects 16-11 record, though, because of lack of experience.
Didn't read it. But don't we play 31 season games? 16-11 is only 27 games. What did I miss?
Torvik......Projects 16-11 record, though, because of lack of experience.
It's because we only have 27 confirmed matchups at this time. 20 conference games and the 7 non-con opponents that have been announced.Didn't read it. But don't we play 31 season games? 16-11 is only 27 games. What did I miss?

Right, but at the end of the day the model is predicting that our coaching staff is only capable of a 16-win season out of an INCREDIBLY talented roster, per this metric.I suspect it has more to do with experience, continuity, and the strength of the middle of the conference (road games in the B10, ya know?) than coaching.
There are 15 Big Ten teams in his top 51.
Hard to imagine Penn St. with more conf. wins than Mich. and just one behind the LoosiersLet's treasure the fact that Michigan is at the bottom of that list... and that Northwestern isn't even present.
I don't think it's that much of a slight - it's basically just predicting which games we will be favored in - he has us:Right, but at the end of the day the model is predicting that our coaching staff is only capable of a 16-win season out of an INCREDIBLY talented roster, per this metric.
I would imagine that this model weights known factors much higher than unknown. The fact that all of our primary contributors are from Europe, freshmen, or sophomore transfers, we have a lot of unknowns. Super high ceiling, but it's hard to determine a real floor for this team as well.Right, but at the end of the day the model is predicting that our coaching staff is only capable of a 16-win season out of an INCREDIBLY talented roster, per this metric.
It's not predicting anything about our coaching staff. We play 3 ridiculously difficult non-conference games. That's 3 predicted losses. And then assuming 12-8 in conference. Torvik is really predicting we finish 20-11.Right, but at the end of the day the model is predicting that our coaching staff is only capable of a 16-win season out of an INCREDIBLY talented roster, per this metric.
We saw it with Illinois just a couple years ago. Granted, that team's ceiling was probably lower than this one. It's not predicting anything about our coaching staff. We play 3 ridiculously difficult non-conference games. That's 3 predicted losses. And then assuming 12-8 in conference. Torvik is really predicting we finish 20-11.
That's a reasonable prediction for our team, given its lack of experience playing together. We've seen this happen to Kentucky and other talented teams so it's not out of the realm of possibility to struggle a bit, especially on the road in the Big Ten.
247's composite ranking emphasizes their own ratings over others, but just a funny coincidence that Riley is our highest rated recruit since Dee and they both landed on #19 on the "consensus" ratings. Will Riley, The Phelps School , Small Forward

Really looking forward to seeing him match up against some of the other top euro pgs again.Kasparas Jakucionis, Illinois 6-foot-6, 200-pound guard will return home to Lithuania before playing in the FIBA U18 EuroBasket from July 27-Aug. 4 in Tampere, Finland
Until he leaves, though, he'll keep working at Ubben Basketball Complex in advance of the 2024-25 season. Work that's impressed the Illinois coaching staff.Good Morning, Illini Nation: EuroBasket opportunity
Kasparas Jakucionis will play for Lithuania this monthwww.news-gazette.com
"Kasparas has been off the charts," Illini coach Brad Underwood said. "You can see his talent. He’s been maybe better than what I thought in terms of some areas of finishing. The size hasn’t bothered him."
& DGL missing altogetherThe current Torvik top 10 Illinois player projections are...umm...interesting.

Predicts Boswell to be our leading scorer while only projecting KJ to average 3 points per game, which is absurd. Also looks to be too bullish on Ty Rodgers with him averaging 13 and 7.
Well, it's a top 10 player projection, and Illinois has 11 viable players to rotate. Player 11 you could debate, but it could be DGL, it could be Jake Davis, it could be Carey Booth maybe.& DGL missing altogether
I like this. Let's remember also that Boswell, White and Rodgers are juniors; plenty of experience there. Not to mention Ben, a senior. This is actually not a young team; just don't know each other. Yet.Now don't take this wrong. This is just my opinion. BUT... Could care less about Torvik but I get it and looked at the metrics. He has Loosierks in the 30's. Heh, thought they were the favs? 16-11. Don't think so. I still think we are still to low. Experience.? No, not as much as last year but we have enough. Can't count either Ivisic or Katmandoo as freshmen although they are. They have been playing with men for the most part. Especially Ivisic. Our other freshmen, Morez is a dog. They don't get counted. The main thing WILL be chemistry. I think Underwood is the Best coach in the BIG. I'm talking right now.
