To be honest - zone might be our best defensive scheme this year given we’ll have some poor man to man defenders playing significant minutes- KJ, Riley and Hum all have their defensive limitations but can be good in zones with their length

Or we could just outscore everyone and not worry about defense - like last year
Not a bad idea. But defense is predicated on "want to", especially given the athleticism of players at this level. Kids can learn to play defense, but it is hard work. And yet, they all want to play at NBA level...some not realizing that to have a career there, it depends on a lean towards defense. Yes, there are a few that don't give there all on that end, but those few have to have elite offensive skills and bring them every game in order to stick. If Brad indeed recruits "every day guys", defense should improve drastically over the course of a season. But there is nothing weak or wrong about making a great zone defense part of your repertoire, especially against weaker perimeter shooting teams. Would love to see at least some of that. It does not make up for poor defense as you still need to know and work hard at defending properly. Still have to do the work and defend your zone.

They literally can’t stop Morez at practice in 5 on 5

Great to hear.
[proceeds to be a downer] Unfortunately, the quickest way to stop a freshman big is to let them get into foul trouble.

My only concern with Morez is he'll get a freshman whistle, which doesn't bode well since he has such an intense playstyle.

It is almost written as if he were moving on and thanking everyone. That is why I was confused.

Felts like I was reading an LSAT statement before the questions. I was trying to find the flaw in the arguement lol
I'm pretty sure he is done. He was listed as a senior last year and is not listed on the roster. Sounds like he was put on a scholarship last semester maybe?

Technically would have another year of COVID eligibility and its weird timing since it's September but maybe he's just starting grad school or something.

And our walk-ons appear more ripped than other teams' starters

Curious to see Rutgers Bailey and Harper vs KJ and Riley. Rutgers recruits rated higher but wonder if matchup against each other or guarded by Ty and Tre. Also Summerville vs Johnson but believe Johnson significantly better if HS matchup memories are accurate. All sorts of opportunities to criticize coaching. Game that could be huge influence on BIG freshman awards.

I'll always defend (yes, pun at least somewhat intended) teams playing man to man. However, I do think a well-placed tactical adjustment going to zone should be in every team's toolkit. I still remember the 1-2-2 one Lon Kruger (also one who has been a strong man-to-man proponent over the years) tossed out a few times late in the 1997-98 season. They didn't use it too often, but I remember it being effective when it was used because teams struggled to adjust.

I wouldn't be surprised if he took some summer classes to make up for credits that didn't transfer and that's why he's posting now when he'll have officially obtained a diploma.
