Andy Katz Picks Illinois Basketball as a Dark Horse Final Four Contender
College basketball expert Andy Katz ranks Illini No. 18 and dubs them a potential Final Four surprise
Pretty impressive staff:athlete ratio.
I believe an insider stated a few months ago that KJ would be the better college player while Demin is the better pro prospect. Are we feeling like KJ is better than Demin at this point?
I agree about Ivisic. He's sort of the missing piece. We need him AND SOON!I wouldn't rank us without Ivisic. That's a huge loss. Coupled with all of the inexperience throughout our roster, I think we might have some growing pains early this season. Plus I'm feeling that we'll do better early if teams don't see us coming so well.
Did I miss something...? I thought Ivisic signed and qualified...? Asking for a friend...I wouldn't rank us without Ivisic. That's a huge loss. eas23Can somebody on here who has a great memory put a list together of the IL players that transferred out the past few years and what schools they ended up on? I'm starting to lose track and want to follow them this coming season.
He has not been cleared yet. That could happen anytime. His brother didn't play until January or so last year. Tomi started the process earlier. I say he gets cleared sometime earlier in the season but what do I know? He will play eventually. The question is when.Did I miss something...? I thought Ivisic signed and qualified...? Will Riley is going to have some growing pains. He can definitely score but how does he guard and rebound?I saw Sweeney’s comments. Noice!
I have a soft spot for sleepers media. I appreciate all the Illini content. (I think they are effective at getting discussions started that might not be otherwise…)
I must say though…Greg, in particular has some habits I find pretty annoying. For one…he digs his heels in and doubles down WAY too much.….as he is presently doing with Hum…and he previously did with Marcus D.
(To Greg’s credit he admitted he was wrong about the latter.)
Secondly, he often contradicts himself with little to no awareness of it.
(ex. He wants us to have continuity then complains when we recruit & target some 3’s a low 4s.)
He praises Brad/Illinois for adapting/scheming/building around the talents of our roster…but at the same time he questions if it will work because he doesn’t see the new pieces fitting exactly like the old pieces. Huh? It’s bizarre. He does it all the time. He thinks you just plug someone else into the same spot/role. He’s already surmising that Humrichous is the new Guerrier? Guerrier could shoot…but he was more of a power slasher type guy. They're completely different type players. (And AJ Storr ain’t Terrence…either Greg)
Most of us have a limited knowledge about Hum’s game just like we did Marcus before him…but I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more to Hum’s game then being a corner spacer.
You watch, they’ll be running actions through Hum before this over. He’s effective in the PnR…that means he can pick & pop AND we COULD utilize him a little like Krutwig if we so choose. Ben is way more well rounded than what he is getting credit for. 5th option, my butt. I look for him to be the 2nd or third option. It might even happen a lot while we’re gelling; especially.
You don’t think that age and experience is gonna be useful out there? Freshman do freshmen things sometimes. Is Will Riley gonna score 40 for us every game? Is he ever gone have a bad game? What about those games when nothing works? Ben might provide a little stability, no?
He was cleared... by the US Government to enter the country legally. The NCAA is another beast.Did I miss something...? I thought Ivisic signed and qualified...? Asking for a friend...

I'm there for the hot takes and resulting banter. I think those guys are absolutely hilarious and a fun listen. They are true bball junkies with an amazing amount of content. They seem really focused on the BIG, especially the contenders, and occasionally have breaking news. But, they speculate a ton or put little things under a microscope with little else to go on. IMO it's mostly for the entertainment value. Greg seems to go stream of consciousness half the time, but with the amount of content they put out, that's understandable. Really good in the offseason if you still want to follow the roster build and other program news.
I tried to tell you guys … DGL been one of the best players on the court since school started …
DGL coming for someone’s minutes … He’s hungry and Brad trusts him …![]()
Awesome. As excited as I am about the transfers, it's ultimately good for the program when a HS recruit sticks around and asserts himself.I tried to tell you guys … DGL been one of the best players on the court since school started …

Don't know if there's a better thread to put this in, but I was listening to a preview show talking about KState and Coleman Hawkins, and it compelled me to go back and count how many former Illini are on rosters for other schools this year and I got 12.
Obviously it's no secret how much the transfer portal has positively impacted our program, and I'm not even saying it's a bad thing, but that's just insane to think about how much college basketball has changed. It's an entire team.

This is important. As good as KJ and Kylan are, we're going to need PT from another guard. I know Will and Ty can play a bit in the backcourt (Will is a better ball-handler and distributor than most give him credit for), but DGL is a true guard. He's quick and can matchup well with smaller quicker guards.I tried to tell you guys … DGL been one of the best players on the court since school started …

That's a lot of updog
So, we're going to go with "Hummer" for Ben H? If so, I respectfully request a re-vote.I like Goode but Hummer is a different type of player. He will be double figures.
He always seemed to have the right attitude and the swagger. I am glad he (allegedly) put that together with the physical development and will be able to make an impact.I tried to tell you guys … DGL been one of the best players on the court since school started …

I’d love nothing more than for Dravyn to carry Trent Frazier’s impact into his generation.
