Just kind of an interesting anecdote to share. We were looking at tickets for the game in Evanston (day after my birthday!), and I found it interesting that on the NU website (so not a third party site like StubHub) has set tiers for minimum prices for their home games. It offers an interesting insight into what fan bases are probably most likely to bring big crowds and/or NU fans are most excited to play.

$121+
Illinois
(Friday)
Indiana (Wednesday)

$101+
Michigan State (Sunday)
Wisconsin (Saturday)
Iowa (Friday)

$81+
DePaul (Saturday)
UCLA (Monday)

$52+
Nebraska (Sunday)
Maryland (Thursday)
Rutgers (Wednesday)
USC (Tuesday)

$30 or lower
Northeastern (Sunday)
Pepperdine (Friday)

Hope to see a lot of orange there in a couple weeks! We’ve gone 3 times, and the Illini contingent has ranged from 45% +/- of the crowd or so back in 2019 when we sucked to closer to 55-60% in 2022 to easily over 70% in 2020 when Krush made the trip and NU fans clearly sold all their tickets.

Two “firsts” that can happen for the Illini this year that I’d really like to see happen.

1. Illinois can become the first team to win five straight games at the Kohl Center, after having become the first team to win four straight there last year. Only Ohio State has won at least three in a row — the first three times they played there (1998-2000)

2. Illinois can also become the first team to win five straight games at Michigan’s Crisler Center. Three other teams have four game winning streaks there — Indiana (02-06), Purdue (81-84) and Wisconsin (08-11). Three B1G teams have never won two in a row at Crisler (Minnesota, Penn State and Nebraska). The Huskers grabbed their first and only win there last season. The best Michigan State has done is three in a row (99-01).

And on top of both of those great accomplishments, we get to keep two hilariously long winning streaks alive vs. both of those programs! Still chuckle at the thought that Juwan never beat us once. :ROFLMAO:

As you will see by navigating to this thread, I'm clearly not qualified to answer! :ROFLMAO: However, someone else kindly corrected me that we are on the LEFT side of this seating chart:

So while I am not 100% sure where the cutoff is, you would be safe in 104-115 or 304-319. I think they generally try to split 116 and 103 down the middle for the aesthetics of the TV broadcast, but I seem to remember that the "official" breakdown is uneven (i.e., one team would get 116 and the other would get 103 across from it).

For the last few years I have gotten Braggin' Rights seats in the following sections:

305

320

319

Experts say the idea arc for the shooting of the ball for free throws into the hoop is between 43 and 47 degrees. A player with a flat shot will be closer to 41. Any takers on what our players are at? I have no idea but something is off.

They need to get the shot at a higher shooting arc because there is more available surface area for the ball to pass through the rim at entry.

Which is why underhanded free throws are more reliable, but good luck convincing players it's worth looking silly to make more FTs.

I'm just gonna ask what might be a stupid question: what are the odds Ty could be convinced to give up his redshirt? Sub him in for Tre White and I think this team's composition (plus our season) starts to have a much brighter outlook...

Tre got 16 minutes against Bama. Really most of Ty's minutes went to Riley. We gotta stop this Tre or Ty thing because I really don't think that's the calculus Ty based his decision on.

We should stop bagging on Tre in general. For his 18 minutes per game this season, he's had 5 rebs in every game except one. He's shooting 43/40/90. Crazy to me that he was the only guy who could make free throws yesterday (4 for 4) and yet some would make it sound like he literally lost the game for us because he was on the floor for 16 minutes (6 pts, 5 reb, 1 blk).

I think he has the highest +/- per minute played on the whole team right now.

Every team is different, and college basketball has obviously changed in crazy ways since COVID and NIL. However, I just wanted to show some early season double-digit losses this millennium that successful Illini teams have suffered ... still plenty of time!!

2002
L 76-63 at Maryland in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge
---> Went on to win finish ranked #10, win a Big Ten championship and make the Sweet Sixteen

2004
L 70-51 vs. Providence at Madison Square Garden
---> Went on to finish ranked #12, win a Big Ten championship and make the Sweet Sixteen

2020
L 90-69 at Arizona
---> Season was cancelled due to COVID, but we went on to finish ranked #23, finish one game away from a Big Ten championship and had won 5 of 6 to end the year, with a rematch with #18 Iowa coming up in the BTT. An amazing season given the decade prior!

2022
L 71-51 vs. Cincinnati in Kansas City
---> Went on to finish ranked #19 and win our first Big Ten championship since 2005

As others have said, this is a very young and inexperienced team! The biggest alarm for me initially was that we appeared soft, but we never TRULY gave in. I was impressed our guys showed the fight to cut it to single digits several times late. Let's get these guys back next year at the UC in front of a much bigger and better crowd, and let's move on to start stacking wins this season!

Basketball and not football, the feds, and the timing around the election, maybe something to do with the influx of foreign citizen players and NIL making a total mockery of the student visas that are the basis for their presence in the country?

Just a total wild guess. Obviously that would be, uh, not great for us.

(I suppose the other more obvious thing would be sports betting. But why just basketball and not football?)

Very good points.

Mea culpa.

The way Brad has faded Tre's minutes the last two games shows that he might be seeing the same thing some of the crazy fans are seeing.

I think Tre has some redeeming qualities. He's a good rebounder and has the athleticism to be a good defender. But he needs to understand his role and play within it. The complaints people have aren't necessarily things that show up in the box score. But even so, he had the lowest +/- of the starters last night. Although he wasn't much worse than KJ and he was better than Dra and Rez.

My issue with Tre isn't his stat line, it is his me first attitude that I don't like. He is giving off the wrong vibe and needs to get rid of it. Saw way too much of that in '22.
