Everyone is comparing this team to the 2022-23 team, so I decided to simply focus on games we've lost by 10+ points ("wheels falling off" moments).

In 22-23, we lost 7 games by 10+ points, the worst of which was a 22-point blowout to Miznoz. (We were also 4-6 our last 10 games as a sidenote.)

This season, we've lost 6 games by 10+ points, the worst of which is obviously the 43-point blowout to Duke. (We're currently 4-6 in our last 10 games with a rough stretch yet to come.)

So similar, yes. But I'd argue even worse than the 22-23 team in a lot of ways. Tuesday night will be a really telling game for the future of this program.

But in 2023 the B1G was not good. 1 team in the top 20 and 4 teams in the top 30 kenpom. I'm not saying we are good. Just not as bad as 2023.

Stretching out as a team before practice

KJ: I'm surprised we never make any in game adjustments, is this normal in the states?
Riley: I have no clue because I'm from Canada and should still technically be in high school....but even our high school coaches made in game adjustments.
Tomi: I at first just assumed they don't make in game adjustments here in the states.....but then I started noticing all the other teams make them so who the h*ll knows!
Ben: Listen guys....I have never even played basketball at this level so it's all a little overwhelming for me. Sorry I'm so down, I just received a text message before practice that my local church basketball team has kicked me off the team because I can't make a 3
Tre: Listen guys.....all I know is I am outa here next year, I have put in my one year.
Kylan: I have no clue about adjustments other than they keep telling me a lay-up is one of the highest percentage shots in the game yet I somehow can't make one. As far as adjustments , I have no clue, last year I played on a team where one guy would want to shoot 30 times a game yet now I'm on a team where everyone wants to just fire up 3's and hope!
Morez: Listen guys, I'm not the best to ask, I'm still trying to figure out why I signed up for this crap years ago! The coach that I came here to play for is no longer here, but I will say this. In grade school we made better in game adjustments than this!
Ty: All I'm going to say is watch the Loyola game....better yet, watch The UConn game from the elite 8. The coach proudly announced on TV how we were going to keep taking it to the hoop after watching us miss shot after shot after shot and have shot after shot after shot blocked. Before any of you start handing out accolades to the coach for making the elite 8, remind yourself this team won because of coach Jay Wright suggestions and the incredible will and determination by the man himself...TSJ period!
KJ: Jake what are you jamming too today?
Jake: Yelling out because of the music in his ears... It's from a band named Good Charlotte...it's called PREDICTABLE!!!! Everyone starts laughing.

just then Dra come's strolling in late....

Dra: What's he gonna do...cut my minutes? Talk about how he is sorry I didn't get enough playing time....AGAIN? Tired of fighting so hard and being an everyday Dawg for a guy who doesn't show any loyalty to his coaches or players....well except Tyler and his best friend.

I am not sure that is true. That Illinois team had some very big time wins with head scratching double-digit losses (home vs PSU and Mizzou). Just a very Jekyll and Hyde season that was built with individual talent that could not ultimately come together as a team. Based on what we have heard from some, this team is together, but the results are just terrible (sicknesses, etc.).

I would have agreed with you in principle until the last three game stretch that we have seen. This Illinois team may have talent, but it clearly is not showing. I always had hope with that 2023 team, as maybe the good team may come through (it did not). This team...not sure what to think. Two possible first round draft picks and a 43 point loss in primetime. Last 3 losses by an average of 26 points! This Illini team does not even look remotely competitive against good competition right now. To be clear, both of these teams are utter disappointments. Maybe this current squad can did deep and turn the season around somewhat, but it feels like a lost season again, barring something crazy happening.

Hey man... that was at least 5 cents worth.

This may have been discussed in the Duke postgame thread, but I couldn't bring myself to go in there. Has any team in NCAA ever won a game by 40+ and lost a game by 40+ in the same season? I feel like this may be another infamous record.

As of today, MSU has the worst made 3 percentage of all BIG teams over the entire season, we are the second worst , again over the entire season, in the BIG. Both are at 30%

But…..

MSU is in the top 10 AP and in first place in the BIG.

We are unranked in AP (3 votes) and tied for 7th in BIG standings

Go figure.

They rank 331st in 3pt attempts.

We rank 8th.

But honestly the bigger stat is they have the 12th best defense per Kenpom. We were at one point ranked around that high but have fallen to 42nd. We still have the #18 offense despite jacking up 3s at a low rate.

I guess the point is that they have the good sense not to chuck up a ton of 3s when they know they can’t hit them. We lack that insight. They are in the top 10, we got 3 votes.

Analytics, anyone?

I will call that lack discipline.

I will call that lack discipline.
It could be both.

I think our gameplan since the beginning of the season has been to jack threes and we struggled to adjust. That appears to be a lack of insight. I also think the players have lacked discipline in looking for open threes, or in looking for other options, and instead settle for bad threes way too often.
