Jakstys looks noticeably more filled out then the twig he looked like when he committed and actually has the frame to support gaining more weight.I am ecstatic to hear BU talk about both Jakstys and Morez in these last couple soundbites. +30lbs for Jakstys?!?!? I can't even say how great I'd feel if he became a role player next year and progressed these next couple years. The Morez cast/light therapy thing, I don't know. I've seen those style casts before, and I'm not versed in the light therapy thing, always seemed sort of quackish to me. I hope Morez gets back into form for the NCAA tourney. I don't even care if he's not available for the B1G tourney myself. I'm NCAA 2nd weekend or bust right now, and I think holding him out of the B1G tourney is probably the smart play, for the team and for Morez.
Admittedly, I'm posting this without having listened to this, but why not burn Jakstys' redshirt? To preserve him an extra transfer year of eligibility at Eastern Michigan? Does anyone honestly think he's going to be suiting up for IL in the 2028-29 season?

I want to have an extra 5 fouls to throw against Michigan's twin towers. Imagine drawing a team like Michigan, with multiple solid bigs in the tournament, Morez isn't back...and Booth is your only other center?
I get preserving eligibility, but BU has already given Jackstys a chance to chase a dream by taking him on a flyer scholarship. I think he grew up an Illini fan, and he's getting a free education, yada yada yada. Suit him up.
End rant
Because with NIL that extra year of eligibility can be very valuable to these kids(look at Coleman getting 2 million for his 5th year).Admittedly, I'm posting this without having listened to this, but why not burn Jakstys' redshirt? And our very own Ben H went from playing NAIA ball to...Because with NIL that extra year of eligibility can be very valuable to these kids(look at Coleman getting 2 million for his 5th year).
Also, who is to say that the kid can't develop into a Big10 player or bench big? If it's his dream school and he grew up an Illini fan then it would be a good thing to have him in the locker room for 5 years especially if he is bought in and not really worried about playing time.
I know his ranking jumped when Illinois offered but he is a fairly athletic 6'10 kid and he was between 120 and 180 on the various prep recruiting sites. That's in the same range as Coleman. I'm not saying he going to become Coleman but under recruited kids become very good college players all the time. Dalton Knect went from Northeaster juco to Northern Colorado to Tennessee (all American) to a lottery pick.
Riley Minic went from playing NAIA ball to Morehead State to being on a 2-way contract with the Spurs. Kids like that getting a chance is probably the coolest part of the portal.
Quackish might be too strong a word but I'm with you. After my back surgeries my doctor put me on something similar, except instead of light it was an ultrasonic at-home thing to stimulate bone re-growth. Cost (the insurance company) a ton and didn't seem to do anything. Maybe it did, but if so I did not notice it.I am ecstatic to hear BU talk about both Jakstys and Morez in these last couple soundbites. +30lbs for Jakstys?!?!? I remember hearing discussion they are going to revisit the bball side of this this offseason. I think most people agree it’s weird it’s one sided. Why is the red-shirt rule for football (no more than 4 games) and basketball (cannot play even a minute, or no more than 30% in case of an injury) so different? Is it because of the physical nature of football? If so, the Illini have some basketball examples, including Morez, that would beg to differ.
Light therapy is not much different than telling your kids to go outside to get vitamin D. It's meant to stimulate D3 production which is good for bone growth and healing. I could see it not working if you already have plenty of D3 but your body simply isn't doing anything with it.Quackish might be too strong a word but I'm with you. No one because he won’t startwhen morez comes back who's starting job is getting caned?
Assuming we're going off the lineup from last game... hopefully not Riley, but likely him.when morez comes back who's starting job is getting caned?
Why not the best lineup:Assuming we're going off the lineup from last game... hopefully not Riley, but likely him.
Certainly not right away. Broken wrists are no joke, even for a simple break. I'm astounded they are talking about him returning as early as they are.No one because he won’t start
Regardless, those stats are incredibly limiting. If teams know all they need to do is take away the paint, we have very little chance of success.Illinois 24-25
57.5% from 2pt 22nd overall
30.1% from 3pt. 338th overall
Illinois 22-23
55.1% from 2pt 24th overall
30.8% from 3pt 340th overall
The big difference is we shoot 5 more 3s per game in 24-25! Please let's not make the same mistakes (or even more). Go inside!
HC and DOBO.Not an Illini question per se, but couldn’t find info on this elsewhere. For college basketball, who is in charge of putting together noncon schedule? Is it the HC alone, HC with input from AD or a more collaborative process between the two? Thanks.
?Not an insider, but I heard a rumor about why we had so many illnesses after the holiday season …

No doubt its macro level but still does reflect what the team is actually doing and what we need to change... Shot selection. If we play 5 out then why aren't we hunting more booty ball or post up by mismatches? We are a very big team and should be able to post up at every position outside of Boswell and DGL. 30 attempts from 3 is just not smart even if they clog the laneRegardless, those stats are incredibly limiting. We have to just pick our spots with threes to ensure driving lanes remain open.
