As we sit here today, the chance that Petrovic is more in line with a guy like Morreti than he is a Big Ten caliber contributor. That's not to say that he won't be all conference. Could happen. Same with Mirkovic(sp ??), but Bosman - Verdonk is also a possibility.

our lunatic fringe is the best
There are definitely times that I am one of THOSE guys, lol.... And I LOVE IT!!! It's so great being an Illini fan! We can be brutal, we can be protective, we can be entirely delusional, we can be splintered yet supportive. Love unconditionally, and be harbingers of doom.... I wouldn't want it any other way! After reading the speculation about Ty and what his role will be I was wondering if anyone knows how his red-shirt season went and if he improved his shooting ability over the last year; what was he working on shooting-wise and whether he has shown significant improvement? Although, I realize that it may not be evident until he is actually playing in games this season.
Ty shooting the ball? Don't hold your breath. You don't learn to shoot at age 21 or 22.

Nice to see we are entering the insane takes stage of the offseason. Petrovic and Mirkovic are guys that would have never gone to college pre NIL, both would have been getting 2-3 million if they were in college last year. Comparing them to Morreti and BBV is just crazy.
I trust your opinion on all things related to Illini basketball. However, you have to admit our (fan base) ability to overhype players in the preseason.

I don't see how Underwood tops Lou's 423 wins over 21 seasons.
He needs 259 wins to pass him. Since 2020, he has average 23 wins per season. So at this rate, it'll take him 12 more seasons. Which would put him at 73 years old.

Personally love covering their bases on their “hot take”

“chances are he could stink but he could also be really good”

I think it’s also very telling that Ben NIL money for this year is less than what the other guys he’s competing against for playing time if what I have heard is correct. Time will tell who gets the PT
Not trying to cause an argument, but do you actually know what any of the players are making? Is it published somewhere?

Yeah, this is what I find amusing. So he never worked on shooting before last year? Ty has his strengths, but shooting isn’t one of them. Sure, guys improve their shooting, but rarely enough when they start at the baseline he started at. And I have to wonder why a guy who was rated pretty highly coming out of HS with the key flaw of shooting hasn’t spent every day in the gym shooting for hours. Seems kind of important to be able to shoot when it comes to basketball.

Ty brings a lot of positives to the roster. Let’s not forget that he DID start for the Elite 8 team a few years ago. (Guess you have a short memory). Only thing Ben H brings is the 3 point shot which in all honesty he never was great at last season and eventually seen him get removed from starting lineup after BU given him every chance under the sun to remain in it. Then watched his minutes fall off drastically. So yeah I think Ty is more in play ahead of Ben H
Ty was not very good against Ole Miss exhibition game so he redshirted. Just something to remember post elite 8 season but I’m clearly rooting for him to be a starter.

I played through HS, intramural at Illinois, then some good leagues around the western suburbs after. I was very good PG. Could do everything but only a so so outside shot at best. Guys learned to sag a bit on me. One day I was watching a DePaul game with Agguire and Cummings. Al McGuire the old Marquette coach was announcing. I was like 26-27 at the time. He should the difference of a shooter that squared his shoulders as to someone who shot like i did. One small correction and I honestly became a very good shooter. Yes a zebra can change his stripes at 21-22. Especially if he works as hard as Ty. Ty had to emulate the best player on the opposing team all season last year for scout teams. I think he was an integral part of their Elite team and will be just as or more important to this team. BU is extremely privileged to get him back. He will work harder than anyone one this team. He was like a coach last year. He will be a captain this season.

There ya go guys….Brad will be retiring here
As great as the hirings of Underwood and Bielema have turned out to be, the hiring that turned Illini fortunes around as much as anything was that of Josh Whitman. From the trust he has built with the coaches and the administration to the transition to the NIL world to the handling of the bogus charges against TSJ, he has been a steadying force. No drama, just great leadership. Makes me wonder if one of the "material changes" mentioned as escape clauses in the contracts might be if Whitman ever left.

We'll have a lot of good bball in the years to come. Don't know if he can get us a natty, but he's done so many things right. Just thinking back on a few highlights since the turn-around: much better roster construction and development, guys heading to the NBA, BIG championships, and increasingly, tourney success have led to fan excitement. Adapting to the portal and NIL, he's found a way. Didn't do it on his own, but with JW and the boosters rallying, it's been an amazing resurgence. Great time to be a fan, especially with BB doing the same on the football side.

I wish there was an asterisk next to any poster's name that said he was on the hotseat so I know which posters know absolutely nothing and should be ignored.

I'm hoping he can just make some 5 - 10 foot jumpers. Forget 3-pointers.
he has proven to make 5-10 foot jumper/floater shots. anything outside of 10 feet he's a non-factor. I would say extending to 15-feet - I think he's a decent (not great, maybe not good either) foul shooter - during the middle stretch of the season he was around 65-70% from the line. Really struggled at the beginning and end of the year. If you're just a reasonable 65% foul shooter, I think there's still a chance you could at least be a threat at 15 feet. Agree no three pointers.

Can anyone give more details here? Just curious how it all could play out
At the end of next season, the board will not be able to meltdown that he's looking to go somewhere else or the his agent is always making calls. That water is completely shut off.

Now, I'm assuming the change of circumstances verbiage would be a change in management (Josh were to leave?????) or something that completely upsets how the current program is set up?

Non-compete clauses are almost impossible to get around.

Brett's is a little different because the limitations that they put on him are far less.

I'm sure the insiders are far more in the loop as to the intricacies.

Perhaps my memory is bad, but I don't recall him making anything beyond point blank range (a foot or two).

Not an insider, but found it interesting that the $500k "longevity" incentive is contingent upon there being no further amendments to the agreement in any material respect through July 1, 2029 (2028 if make F4 any of next three seasons). Could have called it a "no drama" incentive instead.
