It might be time for someone to create an Illini basketball imperialism map of Europe.
Playing Risk man, playing Risk. Lotta Orange and Blue...

Mirkovic being on the World team at Hoop Summit tells you all you need to know. That’s the top 30 or so players at his age that exist anywhere on planet Earth (I’m including the US hoop summit team here of course).

And then you have Petrovic who is 22 and an MVP candidate in the same league (which mind you is the same league Tomi played in the year before Illinois).

If you are gonna peg these guys as literal zero star recruits then you’re just trying to be delulu on purpose.
Yep. I believe a lot of people are sleeping on Mirkovic.

I swear the first time I saw BBV he made like 3 threes in a game? Seemed like a good spot up shooter who would play here and there and then about a season later he had this complete body transformation, got so much bigger, and was a complete non-shooter. Is my memory serving me deelu? Bit of a strange situation.
He was 0 for 2 his entire 6 year collegiate career so I think your memory might be playing tricks on you.

He did take both those threes in his first year at Illinois though.

Also relying purely on memory but I believe the game being referenced was a European exhibition tour. Gave a lot of sky high expectations that never materialized.

Nice to see we are entering the insane takes stage of the offseason. Petrovic and Mirkovic are guys that would have never gone to college pre NIL, both would have been getting 2-3 million if they were in college last year. Comparing them to Morreti and BBV is just crazy.
Even Morreti at age 22 would not have been the Morreti we had.

And one spot ahead of Andrej Stojakovic, no less.

Back to Underwood's contract. Just going off the 247 article, it says, "Underwood also can earn one-year contract extensions each time Illinois makes the NCAA Tournament through 2035."

To me, that means BU will stop getting extensions in 2035, but he could be under contract until 2042 if his 6 year deal gets extended every year. In other words, if he gets a one year extension every year, he would enter the 2036 season with 6 years left on his deal.

Also found it interesting that these are the metrics that JW seems to value most for our program as they're the ones that trigger bonuses (besides longevity which is just a function of hitting said metrics consistently):

- NCAA tournament appearance
This is appears to be JW's baseline expectation for the team. Not making the tournament means no extension. But making the tournament alone isn't enough to increase his retention bonus.

The below achievements trigger additional bonuses indicating JW sees these as "special seasons".

- B1G championship
- BTT championship
- Makes a Sweet 16
- Finishes top 10 in final AP poll
- Makes a Final Four

The thing that stands out to me here is the AP Top 10 bonus. 1) Because it validates the AP poll 2) Because he could've chosen any number 1-25, but this says that finishing 11-25 is just a typical season at Illinois not worthy of a bonus.

Yes. Our insiders are awesome(!!!!), but the hype of some of our players coming in is, at this point, just as insane as those who think they'll max out at being decent role players. We just don't know. Then, the fans jump on the kids because of unrealistic expectations we upon them.
Your comparison yesterday was about as far out in left field that one can get.

I know he made a couple of threes in some game. Maybe an exhibition?

Feel bad for Morez. Grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. Big life lesson.

I suspect he will be transferring again after this season. Once you bail on your commitment it gets easier and easier to do it again. See Tre White path.

He would be better off working on his ball handling so he can drive to the hoop and learning the Kofi drop step so he can post up.
