On an old topic...not trying to re-start an argument, just passing on a story. Topic is the question as to whether or not the weight room (over) bulking up is affecting the shooting motion or effectiveness of our players.

I saw my nephew for the first time in a while as he is out of state in college. But in high school he played at Yorkville with Jason Jakstys, and I guess my in-laws know the Jakstys family a bit from the basketball relationship. Super nice family they say.

Anyway, my nephew talked to Jason about this topic, and apparently it is a thing with at least some legs. Jason is much bigger now than he was when he got here, and has developed what he feels is a hitch in his shot. His shooting numbers in practice are not what they used to be.

I'm not taking sides on the question of whether or not the physical change itself can or cannot cause shooting problems. I'm just saying that if the player thinks it does, whether true not, that is enough to make it manifest itself as a thing.

Just for everyone to know … I told you all there would be staff changes and there have been …

Hamer was demoted … He will slide into more a role where he focuses on analytics and off season workouts and other tasks …

Cam Crocker is the new DC … He is running the show on that end and he will be making changes …

Patrick Bittle is going to take a new role and help Tyler with the offense …

John Keller is going to be the new video coordinator …
Sounds like elite news. What's your take on how adept CC will be at his new role?

Anything mental can manifest as something physical. At that point, I'd say two things need to happen.

1. Trust your coaching to regain/adjust your shot mechanics.
2. Work with a sports psychologist to clear any mental hurdles.

Both take time, but it's nothing insurmountable, and I'd say the additional muscle likely does more to protect from injury and allow guys to go up against the fully grown men we see in Big Ten play. In my opinion, the benefit outweighs what should be a temporary setback.

Just curious about Bittle. Looking at his bio, how does he have the background to help with the offense? His background has always been in video.

i was thinking about this last night when i saw that loyer had allegedly put on some muscle. hopefully if it is real and affects our guys it will also affect other program's guys

I am really excited about this kid

I share your enthusiasm. but I'm enthusiastic about Wagler too, it's just that he has a longer runway, I reckon.

I'm enthusiastic about all our guys. looking for leaps from a good number of them. and I really hope Ben makes the haters eat crow. I think he has it in him

Yeah, another reason I called this a 'thing' in my original post is that Jason brought the topic up to my nephew, not the other way around. Meaning I or my nephew did not lead the witness on this. It's definitely in some player's heads.

Illinois is due for a freshman recruit to come in and really out play his recruiting ranking. Hoping Brandon Lee is that guy

Purdue hit the lottery with edey and Braden and they were 3 and 4 star guys that turned into all Americans quickly.

Was just watching some YouTube vids tonight and thought I'd post one

From about 5 months ago at the Iverson Classic, #1 recruit A.J. Dybansta and Utah Prep vs Brandon Lee and Patrick School

Utah Prep won 78-73, Dybansta 31 points, Brandon Lee 25 pts
