To be fair, it was a neutral site, but your point is taken.when we don’t beat the #1 team in their own gym in an exhibition

This loss means everything and our season is definitely over. Unbelievable loss to a team that will amount to nothing come march. Thank god we’re a football school!
What’s his classification? Is there any truth to this statement?.
The game was played in a facility 1 hour from their campus. It’s one they’re very familiar with and that we’ve never stepped foot in before yesterday.
Anyway it was joke, so we don’t really need to litigate this at all. I also didn’t mention missing players or minute restrictions. Really, I just think the overreactions are silly and pure comedy gold, that’s all. I think this team will be fine and going against #1 was a great experience for them.

Right, it's understandable that we didn't win this game and that our offense might be down with Stojakovic still out and with limited minutes for Tomi. But it's NOT okay to give up 53 points in the first half (96 on the game) and supposedly get outrebounded (42-39) partly due to giving up 18 offensive boards. Comparatively, we gave up only 9 offensive boards to ISU and averaged giving up 9.0 offensive boards last season. A lot better would be keeping the Gators to about 80 points (even if you lose) and winning that rebounding battle, due to our overall height and weight advantages. Disappointingly, we couldn't manage that against the Gators.
Instead, it sounded like two guys (6-11 235-lb Condon and 6-10 265-lb Chinyelu) dominated us inside (largely against the Ivisic brothers in the half) to the point that Coach Underwood was blowing his top at halftime about being more physical. A big part of the reason we got smoked for 53 points in the first half was seemingly due to all this rebounding by the Gators. It sounds like Underwood's fireworks had an effect in the beginning of the 2nd half though. Illinois reasserted themselves and somewhat evened out the rebounding game to come back to a position where they could have even won this game. But we still ended up giving up too many points down the stretch. Florida scored 43 in 2nd half or 96 total, likely led by Condon and Haugh (each with about 20 points on the game) and seemingly about 5 Florida guys (possibly their starting 5) in double figures. That's just not enough defense to win tough games on the road in the Big Ten Conference. It looks like this Illinois team is going to struggle their unless we learn to better use our height and weight advantages to rebound better and play better defense to limit good teams about 80 points, not almost 100 points.
The first team all American put 20 points on us?!? What a gigantic shock. How will we ever recover /sRight, it's understandable that we didn't win this game and that our offense might be down with Stojakovic still out and with limited minutes for Tomi. Good grief. Tomi played 18 minutes vs the National Champs and an elite rebounding team. With likely our #1NIL top paid player not playing at all. I think they're confusing the injury issue with the eligibility issue. Is there any truth to this statement?.
Counterpoint: they also beat #1 Kansas a year earlier in a secret scrimmage and lost in the first round as a 9 seed.I'll flip things around- can we care about the exhibition results, or at least not completely disregard them? The sole year under Underwood that we got out of the first weekend, we beat preseason #1 Kansas in our exhibition game.
Exhibitions are for running a ton of different plays and schemes to see if they’re useful at all for later on. No need to read too much into the outcome.Right, it's understandable that we didn't win this game and that our offense might be down with Stojakovic still out and with limited minutes for Tomi. Reading too much into results of a scrimmage, particularly a secret scrimmage, is a pointless endeavor.

Sorry, but that sounds a poor approach. Why would you wait two months into the Big Ten season to fix problems that are obvious now? That's a good way to start off in middle to the back of the pack and never get yourself near the top again.Cmon man. Let’s save this kind of energy for when nw beats us in January, not an exhibition game where you got to see anything other than a box score.
