He has been cleared to practice, and exhibitions are glorified practice. There shouldn't be an issue with those games.

why have people suddenly started discussing that petrovic has a more difficult path than tomi or that he will miss the start of the season. there is nothing to suggest that for now
Because it's been casually mentioned by Brad for a while until Media Day when he outright said it's going worse than Tomi's process.

Here's the quote, for full context (he said its been "maybe drawn out a little bit because of timing things", not "going worse"):

"We do not, that's just a process that we continue to wait on. We have done everything, our staff has been great-- handling everything the way that we did. Maybe drawn out a little bit, compared to what Tomi went through a year ago. This one is a little bit longer because of timing things that were completely out of our control. We have, our compliance staff, our lawyers, have done everything we need to do and we're just waiting for for the NCAA to tell us what that looks like."

I'm unsure why he would say that, unless they knew privately that Tomi was cleared and just didn't announce it for another month?

Maybe they felt Tomi's approval was a foregone conclusion because his brother took the hit the year before and it was mostly bartering over years of eligibility?

That could be, and it also doesn’t seem they’re still waiting on anything for Mirkovic. I’m guessing that being 19 vs 22 has something to do with it. I’m hoping our resident insiders are correct and we’re just waiting for an answer on how many years vs is he eligible at all.

Or it's possible expectations were tempered for Tomi because it took his brother until January to get eligibility. Then since Tomi got his determination much faster, expectations changed again.
Here's a comp for Petro that might put hearts at ease. Andrija Jelavic played for Mega Superbet for 2 years and just got cleared to play as a Sophomore for Kentucky. The only surface-level difference in his situation and Petro's is that Petro is a year older.

I think the way they're doing this, that distinction is going to be important. I actually think it may be the very thing the NCAA is grappling with here. Technically, Petrovic was eligible to be selected for the 2025 NBA draft, without having entered, as he turned 22 in 2025. A team could have selected him and retained his rights even as he played for us. I think the fact that he was not selected means he is eligible to sign with an NBA team, whenever he wants. I don't think it would happen but if he was an absolute stud, and NBA team could theoretically swoop in and sign him mid-season. I think that reality makes his case different than Jelavic, who will be an NCAA player before he meets those eligibility requirements, and thus whose eligibility would be determined by the set of rules that apply to NCAA players (I assume).

Finally got around to watching the BU media day presser. One big takeaway was when he talked about shot selection, specifically getting away from early shot clock and contested threes. That was probably the biggest contributor to the low percentages last year, made everyone look like bad shooters, and killed confidence. I'm really hoping they focus more on drive and kicks or shots off good ball movement rather than one lateral pass and chuck it up.
