There's a couple dunks in this one. There's another that shows some more drives. The way he finishes off contact and really a lot of other parts of his game remind me so much of Riley. His game isn't built on athleticism or being flashy but its there.

based on this 2:21 video clip , I don't care if he ever dunks......ever................he has good skill at getting open and his shot looks pure as could be..........I'm excited to see him on the court in an Illini uni...............I really really am................

It is a bad look, and a ridiculous one too. It makes me question what the whole point it was for MJ to commit to Illinois in the first place then. Not to mention commit to Illinois AS A SOPHOMORE!!

It's one thing to commit at the last minute in high school and find out soon after that perhaps maybe that program just wasn't the right fit for you. But you didn't know this 3 freaking years before you put on the O&B dude?

B***h, please!

🙄
He committed after the 20-21 season. That year we shot 41 2s a game and 17.5 3s. Last year we shot 33 2s and 30 3s.

We all know the offense is decidedly different than when he committed.

Our Ken Pom defensive rating was 40 last year. Our defensive rating was 7 in 20-21.

We all know the defense is decidedly different than when he committed.

Morez handled this whole thing poorly. But it's very understandable.

Don't think it is because of change in philosophy - if it made sense to pound it inside to Morez or to let Morez take threes, BU would do that. Why I think it is understandable is that given our roster, even without Mirkovic, he would have been sharing time with Tomi, Z and Ben. Given his propensity to foul he might have averaged 20 mins a game. He went to Michigan and didn't plan on Yaxel not going pro or getting recruited over. He didn't think he was going to be in a fight to get tick when he jumped, but it has turned out that way. He has been trying to rationalize his decision ever since.

Personally, if i take morez at his word (which meh) that he left because he wants to develop and not be Kofi Cockburn, then I applaud Brad for letting him go.

He won't shoot 3's or create on the perimeter at Michigan because he can't do it well. And candidly, he was not nearly good enough defensively at Illinois to justify turning the offense this year into open mic night "developing his perimeter skills."

UM gets the advantage though because Dusty will eventually tell him the same thing, and he'll either swallow the pride or move to a third school.

We can speculate all we want about reasons. That really wasn't my point. The OP was suggesting that the early commit should somehow have caused him to be more locked in. My point is that ironically, the type of offense and defense he committed to changed dramatically so the early commit was in some ways a detriment.

We haven't really had a consistent identity. It's probably not ideal, although I'm not sure how many other teams have one either. Helter skelter roster construction makes it tough.

Also, "status" tends to lag actual success in the same way attendance does. In other words, we had worse attendance, TV spots, ratings, etc. in 2019-20 (when we were top 20) than last year (when we were a rather frustrating #7 seed). With that in mind, here is just another visual of the great job Brand and Co. have done in elevating the program back to a brand level we all enjoyed so much during the early and mid-2000s! For context below, I am defining "major network" as one of CBS, FOX, ESPN, etc .... pretty much not BTN, FS1, Peacock, SECN, etc. Also, regular season only so it's apples to apples with this year.

Games on Major Network by Season
9 in 2025-26
9 in 2024-25
5 in 2023-24
10 in 2022-23
7 in 2021-22
7 in 2020-21 (shorter season)
2 in 2019-20

It's not a SUPER helpful visual and has some obvious problems ... such as ESPN was an option for Big Ten regular season home games until the 2023-24 season (causing a dip starting in 2023-24) and it just sort of depends on the schedule that year.

However, if you take into account that we are only ever on ESPN anymore if we are playing on the road vs. an SEC/ACC team and that it's up to FOX or CBS to pick up our games now ... there has been a very clear improvement in the "stage" our program is on since Underwood got here.
We have 5 games on Peacock this year..............Peacock just announced a price increase from $ 79.99 to $ 109.99 annually......I don't like it but I love my Illini so I reasoned it's only $ 2.50 a month more and I pizz away a lot more than that so I am still a Peacock customer....................

the more you know................

Zach Edey was drafted 9th overall and finished 5th in ROY voting. He attempted 0.8 3-pointers a game last season. Last season's Rookie of the Year attempted 4.1 of them a game at an abysmal 28.5% rate. If you own your role, you don't have to shoot 3's and even if you shoot them badly, you can still succeed.
But Zach Edey is 7' 4" and Johnson is 6'9". Lot's of 6'9" to 7'0" players in the NBA and most can shoot the 3.

I've gotten Peacock for $19.99 a year that last 2 years by cancelling my sub and waiting for the special offer email. Not sure if they'll keep being so generous, but I'll try again next year when it lapses.

I recall Indy Illini Fan mentioning that Morez Johnson Camp was very unhappy with his playing time around the Holidays.

We will see, but I bet Andrej and Tomi are rested against ISU: Andrej has started to practice with the team again, will be doing everything in a few days. Tomi should start to do some stuff this coming week-if not the week after, both will be back well before the first regular season game.

Game One prediction for November 3rd:
Kylan, Keaton, Andrej, Ben, and Tomi.

Petro will play 22-25 minutes off the bench if he does not start, Z 20 minutes, Mirk 12-15, Jake and Lee maybe a little less than that.
Wagler starting is the last thing I would've ever expected in the summer.

I am not up to date on what is going on the hardwood. I have been following the guys on the gridiron. Are all the Illini recruits here, eligible and healthy? Thanks

#446
I'm not sure what is more surprising, that the media expects Wagler to be better than Petrovic, or that Petrovic is being considered a freshman.
Speaking of.....are we still up in the air on the eligibility of MP regarding where he will be classified?

And I agree....really will be surprised if he'll be considered a frosh. It's just rather silly on its face alone. JMO

That would be something. Not a single Balkan player that wasn't already in the NCAA last year. I didn't have that on my bingo card.

Source? You're just inventing a narrative here
He was asked why someone would sign a deal if they weren't happy, which essentially asks for speculation. One extremely logical possibility is that it was the best ("committable") offer on the table at the moment and they were hedging. Sure, it's speculation, but it's also a very logical bit of speculation.
