To make room for Petro, I dont see any reason why at 6'6-6'7" Wagler can't take some of Jake's minutes at the 3 when Andre sits to get Mihailo plays well like I think he can. Mirk, Ben and a little if Z can focus on the 4. I just expect Mihailo to offer more of an impact than Jake and to get Mihailo significant minutes without benching Wagler (which I certainly don't want) then I don't see any reason Wagler can't play the 3 spot given his size, skill and shooting ability. After seeing the team play, here’s my new minutes estimate against meaningful competition when the full team is healthy (excluding Ty):
1&2:
(32) Boswell
(28) Wagler
(20) Petro
3&4:
(30) Andrej
(24) Mirk
(18) Ben
(8) Davis
5:
(24) T
(16) Z
Absolutely. If we have a healthy Andre, Petrovic, Wagler, and Boz, Jake is likely to see his minutes go down considerably. But those are obviously big ifs. Whenever Boz, Wagler, or Andre sit I prefer to play Mihailo at point and slide Wagler to the 2 or 3 spot. Mihailo, Boz Wagler, or Mihailo, Wagler, Andre or Mihailo, Boz Andre. I just think those at the one thru three are better and options with Jake at the three skill wise. I love Jake and how he plays mistake free but the other guys at the wings are where the money is gonna be going for a reason.
agree. Unfortunately for Jake he is going to see his minutes reduced and probably significantly. As a side note I don't want to see any lineups with Hum and Davis both on the court. To make room for Petro, I dont see any reason why at 6'6-6'7" Wagler can't take some of Jake's minutes at the 3 when Andre sits to get Mihailo plays well like I think he can. I'm a bit surprised and disappointed by all the tickets still available. I'd thought there were plenty of us Illini in Chicago itching for games here.
It's too bad that they did this on a weeknight. I'll be traveling 2.5 hours in and out same night to go but even when you're in Chicago, an 8pm Wednesday night tip is tough to commit to.I'm a bit surprised and disappointed by all the tickets still available. I came down to the Texas Tech game from Chicago and the 2.5 hour drive home was not bad since we won. I am going to the UC on Wednesday and the only good thing about the start time is you will miss most of the rush hour. It's too bad that they did this on a weeknight. The reality is, this is a made for TV event as are most games now. The fans in the stands are mostly stage props and a secondary consideration.
One thing about Braden Smith is that he is the big catalyst of Purdues offense. Very few defenders can stop his dribble penetration without help or a double team which leaves someone else open. I look for Petrovic to be much of the same for us. That would be the thing that would help keep us from getting stagnant on offense as we do at times.Absolutely. Broadly, Illini just can't get a lot of Chicago metro traction, it seems to me. Particularly true for football but somewhat true for early & regular season basketball too. Just unable to get the city really engaged in our Illini. There's barely an Illini bar presence. Someone mentioned the Budweiser Brickhouse being Champaign north but my experience (limited) with that has been very disappointing.I'm a bit surprised and disappointed by all the tickets still available. Last time I went to the Brickhouse was for the UCLA game in Vegas. They were raffling off shots and my table won 3 rounds of shots throughout the night (I think they only drew 4 tickets). Between that and the result of the game, it was a pretty good night. Wish I could say I remembered what the crowd was like...I think it was a good Illini crowd?Broadly, Illini just can't get a lot of Chicago metro traction, it seems to me.
