If the #3 team loses to the #20 team, we could drop to #10. And then Duke and UConn losses depending on what happens around us could drop us 2-3 places each. That starts our B1G conference with us a 4 seed trying to lead frog potentially 12 teams to re-earn a 1 seed across the conference season. And if any of those top 4 ranked teams simply maintain a better overall record than us we may never climb back there. Only highly ranked teams in the B1G will be MSU and Michigan potentially the LA teams. Thats only 4 chances really to make meaningful ranking jumps. We could just stay hovering in the top 15 to top 5 range.

I know a lot of people have maintained optimism about the season. But OSOC is a thing. And we could lose our chance at a 1 seed early December barring a generational run in the B1G ala Michigan last year.
This is my fear without Mirkovic. Frankly if we don't have him for the first couple months our title hopes are probably close to dead. We could still win the conference and possibly have a good march run but usually national champions are dominant from the beginning of the season.
Wow. The hand wringing on the football side must've stopped after we beat a crap Maryland team by a field goal, so you brought unabated anxiety back over here...

IANAI, but my guess is that 19 year old Mirk did what 20 year old me did after an appendectomy and what 41 year old me did after a hernia operation — that is, rush back to work trying to prove he’s a He-Man only for realize rushing back may not have been the wise thing to do.

assuming uncomplicated (non-perforated) appendicitis and standard recovery, i wouldn’t expect this to impact his return too much assuming he was still 3-4 weeks away

that being said, our luck so far this season is terrible…
Beat me to it. Given the foot situation, this just falls in line with the timeframe to start ramping up activities. Glad he's ok. Just a rough start to the year for him.

Where are our MDs to tell us how bad this is?

I had an emergency appendectomy in college. You can’t lift anything above 10-15 lbs for a week or two.

So assuming he was missing that time for his foot regardless, the biggest thing will be conditioning. Still thinking hes back a game or two before UConn.

Realistically, it doesn't change much. It's 2-3 weeks to return to "normal" activities. His foot is probably along that same timeframe. The staff won't have to worry about him staying off his foot.
Good to hear, but will there be a concern about conditioning if he has to lie in bed for two or three weeks? Will he have to lie in bed for two or three weeks? I mean, he probably hasn't been as active with the foot injury, but he was still doing some conditioning while recovering; will even that continue now while healing from the appendectomy? In the Kyle Tausk tweet, BU said "further delaying his return", which seems to imply beyond the timetable for his return from the foot injury.

0% chance IMO. It's crazy to think about it, but that's only 4 weeks away.

He's going to have restrictions on liting anything and once The boot comes off, he'll be working on resuming just day to day activities. Getting there is going to take time.

Assuming that goes well, THEN he'll be back to conditioning.

If that goes well, he'll be back to practicing and doing basketball activities and only if that goes well will he be allowed to play. The key time will be how he feels after rigorous practices. If after a couple of practices it hurts again......it's right back to where he is now(pre surgery).

To make this go as quickly as possible, they have to be safe and if that means taking it slow, it is what it is. The kid's health comes first(with all due to the season). He's got a long life to live and two hours of our entertainment, twice a week.....well, it's secondary, by FAR.

I'm guessing bed rest and total relaxation is probably a few days. Then, he can be up and around, but nothing stressful(lifting the things up, nothing to put stress on the area). Day to day activities doesn't take very long to get back to. Again, just nothing rigorous.

Conditioning is going to take a while. Heck, do we even know if he's out of the boot yet? If this didn't occur would he still have been on the scooter? If that's the case, the whole situation is moot. The two injuries align from a time standpoint.

I'm not sure if anyone has any info with where he is with regards to walking without the boot?

I wouldn't think physucal B10 basketball is considered a normal activity. I hope he is back by December.

We have a great incoming class. That said, I wish we had recruited a true power 4 type to back up Mirk. Jason J you are in for a big role while Mirk heals
