I agree with the Illini sentiment, but those Miznoz unis are ugly as sin.Mizzou is going to a full set of throwbacks as their unis this year.
We should do similar with our Fighting Illini throwbacks in white, orange, and blue versions, with the script white alternates.
So 2000-2006 was our most successful era of basketball ever until we changed jerseys? And now we're in the middle of an Illinois basketball Renaissance that started when we switched to our current jerseys and we want to switch? In that case, I say wear em til the white turns yellow.I remember Coleman had a funny Tweet complaining about how we've had these uniforms forever, and I wanted to see how it compared to previous sets. I believe these are correct (using our white uniforms for simplicity's sake) for our default/regular uniforms in recent history, but it got somewhat difficult to tell in the 2009-2019 ears, lol.

So, while our current stretch is not quite as long as the 2001-2006 stretch ... it does seem abnormally long for the post-Dee Era uniforms and considering that the current defaults seem to be widely unpopular, especially in comparison to the throwbacks... You would think that by next year at the latest, we would be well past overdue for a new set (which, hopefully, just involves Nike making our two awesome throwbacks in all three colors ... but let's not count on them to not sabotage their own work).
Lol, fair point, fair point ... but man, out of an array of a lot of pretty "meh" jerseys since Dee left, the current ones are easily my least favorite aesthetically. And again, it's not JUST that I don't like them ... it's that these are the alternatives RIGHT in front of our faces that are already made, and we could simply just be wearing them every game (it's not like we really save them for specific times whatsoever...).So 2000-2006 was our most successful era of basketball ever until we changed jerseys? Ha no I agree with you. Just couldn't help but notice that our last two periods of sustained success coincided with prolonged periods of wearing the same jerseys.Lol, fair point, fair point ... but man, out of an array of a lot of pretty "meh" jerseys since Dee left, the current ones are easily my least favorite aesthetically. To each his/her own and all, but I have never heard someone actually say they think our current default set looks better than either throwback ... the only defense of them is usually "They're fine." Lol. I could see an argument where we were trying to preserve them as "special" or something, but that clearly is not the case. Last year we wore throwbacks vs. Southern in November and wore our defaults in literal Sweet Sixteen and Elite games, haha.
They're not throwbacks if they're timeless. We need to go to a four-kit rotation of classic block FI in white and orange and white and orange scripts. And leave it at that.Mizzou is going to a full set of throwbacks as their unis this year.

No. They won't. Ever. What’s crazy is that, 30 years from now, there will be Illini fans saying “cool! They’re doing the 1LL1NO1S uniforms as throwbacks!”
Again,@Dan , where is the 1,000,000 Likes button? They're not throwbacks if they're timeless. We need to go to a four-kit rotation of classic block FI in white and orange and white and orange scripts. And leave it at that.
I'd add block FIs in blue b/c those popped in the '80s but I'm well aware of the slightly-more-than-stitious attitude the faithful here have toward the blues.
No. They won't. Ever.![]()
More blue uniforms...
I am guessing that this MIGHT BE a BIT biased.2. - two of the best jerseys in all of college hoops.
Honestly, not as much as you’d assume. If you follow college hoops accounts on Instagram that ever post best uniforms lists, those are always highly, highly thought of by non-Illini fans.I am guessing that this MIGHT BE a BIT biased.
I've always loved these ones. Black stripes and all. This is the only allowable blue uniform. Minus the Daisy Dukes of course.

Agreed, but I’d use orange lettering like what the early 80s uniforms had. I’m all about using the “two throwback/three color” setup, but I would like to see something that’s a little different. This is the only allowable blue uniform. Minus the Daisy Dukes of course.

Does anyone have a color picture of the early 1980s navy jerseys?? I would love to see that. It is difficult enough to find a photo of these online besides this zoomed out team photo:Agreed, but I’d use orange lettering like what the early 80s uniforms had. I’m all about using the “two throwback/three color” setup, but I would like to see something that’s a little different.
By using orange letters and white trim on this set, you can have some subtle, but important difference between the orange and blue uniforms in each set. I’d prefer the true 1989-style Flying Illini with white lettering and have navy lettering on the orange script uniforms. I would stick with navy lettering on both the script and Flying Illini sets to have a solid, consistent look with the white uniforms.
Yep, our current basketball uniforms and previous football uniforms are the most puke-worthy examples of chasing a then-hot minimalist trend that I can think of. I think a "minimalist" look HAS to coincide with a classic/traditional look ... think Penn State or Alabama. When you combine trendy 1LL1NO1S font with jerseys so plain they look like they came out too early, it's just a cheap look.If they would have just outlined the numbers and lettering on our current set they’d look SO much better. Still not as good as the throwbacks tho.
Dude... you think those are Daisy Dukes?! Those are burqas compared with my high school JV kit in '81, hand-me-downs from the varsity in the mid-'70s. The hemline was positively unseemly. I blush to think that adults regularly watched boys play in those shorts. I was looking through old yearbooks before my 40th HS reunion last summer and felt dirty gazing upon in-game photos. This is the only allowable blue uniform. Minus the Daisy Dukes of course.
