If Nike didn’t suck, we’d be busting out the Orange Script or Navy Flyin’ Illini tomorrow! However I’ll gladly accept either of the current throwbacks!!
I would like to see the Navy Flying Illini don’t want to see any other type of blue uniform. I think we could win some games in blue we would not think they are bad luck. I like our orange but we over wear it. for the 04-05 team it was our identity and the team owned it. We haven’t own that identity since. Our fans should only wear orange especially for basketball understand winter football

The white script should be our only white uniform
Away/alternate should be orange and a blue Flying Illini.

Last year he did indicate at a Fan Council meeting that they would be looking at a reset of sorts on the Illinois branding. Saying that after 10 years the individual athletic programs have all kind of gone off in their own directions, and it might be time to bring them closer together. It sounded like maybe a soft/half rebrand. If that is still ongoing, maybe we could still be due for new uniforms this fall, or maybe more likely fall 2026.

But I agree that it is a bit surprising he hasn’t done more to move away from the MT rebrand. I imagine part of it is how they can’t make these changes too often. But also, Brad technically made this latest design of the defaults happen when he got here. So it’s not like we are wearing John Groce era uniforms.
But the overall uniforms are still a direct descendent of the Mike Thomas era. And I'll continue to say that we need very little incremental effort for Illini basketball uniforms. We have two excellent templates where all you need to do is swap colors. I'm no design expert, and it would take me about an hour to lay out the concepts.

After this season, it's just time to retire the current defaults. We do not need an overall rebrand with the basketball uniforms. You have the scripts and the Flying Illini templates. Figure out how you work those and move on.

If we don’t get an updated base set for next season, I am going to throw a massive temper tantrum.

It has been 6 years.
I've disagreed with this for awhile, but I think it's time.

And they shouldn't be the base set, but I also think 20 years is time for the 05 throwbacks.

Yep. I don't remember the exact timeframes, but I went back and looked for all of our uniforms since 2001 ... this is now the longest we have had one set, INCLUDING the 2001-2006 set, and the next set with the most longevity only existed for 2-3 years. That is absurd, lol. Is it ideal to switch uniforms every 3 years? Maybe not ... but let's not act like we hit the jackpot with these and we would just hate to see 'em go!

Someone is just (practically on purpose, at this point) keeping this off of their radar, and it kills me.

Kind of a descendant of Mike Thomas era. The font we are stuck with is from the Mike Thomas era (and seem unable to get rid of annoyingly, probably contractually), but the uniforms were literally the same design as the Lovie football uniforms, to the point that the back of the basketball uniforms have the same design as the football numberings. We were also trying to tie our brand together more back then which as I've said is idiotic because Illinois Football and Basketball are completely different brands. There are certain motifs we've used on all our uniforms since 2014 (font, two by two pattern symbolizing Memorial Stadium) though that I wonder if we are obligated to use some parts of the rebrand. If so, can't wait until that day ends.

Didn't someone post here that Ayo commented during his freshman year that we needed new uniforms? Maybe one of these super expensive transfers we're after will be like, "Dude, you guys got to get those two throwbacks in all three colors, like what are you thinking? Those regular ones suck." :ROFLMAO:

all of complaining about our NIL, BU's nepotism, Hamer's tights and terrible defensive strategy, and it turns out it was only our horrible set of uniforms holding us back from being the mecca of college basketball. That would be the most Illinois thing ever.

As I've posted before, I'm holding out hope for a design like this:

Name checks out.

I came across MD Chicago's avatar, which helps visualize a traditional style that I am advocating. View attachment 41711

I think most here want a more timeless look. But there needs to be some kind of "ownable" design elements that distinguish us from, say, Syracuse. I.e. if a person is illiterate / from Indiana, they should be able to tell that it's an Illinois jersey without having to read the name on the chest.

So we need an “ownable” design element to a basketball uniform that isn’t colors (because we need to be distinguishable from another orange and blue school) and isn’t words.

What, exactly, are you hoping for here? High socks?
