And how do the orange uniforms compare in similar road games? (Is there a website or spreadsheet with this somewhere?)

#54
No, but there IS a Fighter of the Nightman post inbound on this location as we type.
Tomorrow, lol. And I’m guessing the orange ones have a better record (though two immediate great wins in the navy that come to mind are wins in Madison in 2020 and 2023) for one main reason - we stopped wearing them as often right when we started to get much better conference records in 2021, 2022, etc. So it’s a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point, IMO.

FWIW, though, the orange 1LL1NO1S defaults ended last season losing 5 out of 6 games, including 3 straight and being worn in two of the most embarrassing losses I can remember in the last 5+ years (at Wisconsin and vs. Maryland in the BTT).

And those losses included...

2020 at #21 Arizona
2020 at #3 Maryland
2020 at #18 Iowa
2020 at #19 Ohio State
2021 vs. #2 Baylor in Indianapolis
2021 at #19 Rutgers

So two thirds of the losses were to top 25 teams away from home ... kind of a skewed sample size compared to saying our white 1LL1NO1S set is "lucky" because wear them to beat up on teams like Jackson State, haha.
And iirc the 3 wins are Valpo 2 years ago and Wisconsin twice

'Bama will wear red at the UC when we play them, so I hope that opportunity goes to the White Script (unless, of course, we get surprise White Flyin' Illini!). However, I hope we give the Orange Flyin' Illini a chance to move up the list vs. Tennessee and/or UConn!

1LL1NO1S need set ablaze... NAVY throwback "Fighting Illini" need to make a reappearance and in a hurry. Those are my all time favorite road jerseys. To hell with the recent losing record while wearing them. Look at the opposition U of I was up against and the Illini squads that wore them on the recent L skid...
Superstitions are only a 'thing' if you allow them to be!

Keep - white script and the orange throwback Fighting Illini
Add - orange script, white throwback Fighting Illini, and navy throwback Fighting Illini
Destroy - 1LL1NO1S or any jersey with the same font

***now that I think of it.......... a navy script would be NASTY 😱

Brad and team, a humble ask to bring out the Flyin’ Illini uniforms for their season debut vs. Alabama 👀
With Alabama likely wearing red, guessing it'll be the scripts.

My new pipe dream is that we'll break out a navy throwback for our black Friday game at the Garden. Script, Fighting Illini, 2000s, doesn't matter. The black quarter zips our staff wore last night gave me hope that they're ready to embrace the dark side.

Hawkeyes keeping up with the times (or you know, just updating their unis on a regular basis) while our athletic department sits idle, content, aimlessly watching with a donut in hand.
this isn’t rocket science 😅

continued use of 1LL1NO1S is inexcusable

can someone start an online petition to have them thrown in the trash? we can even include all the better options on the petition for the DIA

i would also contribute to a go fund me to buy a ticket for someone to walk around the SFC with a written petition and get signatures at home games. or even a booth.. could print out big posters with navy script and all versions of FI throw backs

I may very well be wrong on this, but I've thought the whole "white at home, dark on the road" has been significantly reduced these days. Maybe not as irrelevant as it is in the NBA, but I'm seeing a lot more instances of color vs color or a home team wearing dark.

I would imagine if Illinois called Alabama and said, "Hey, we want to wear orange. Can you wear white?" in advance, Alabama probably wouldn't object.

What would solve everything is if we said we’re wearing navy and Alabama can wear whatever they want.

Count me in the camp of HATING the trend of having jersey colors be meaningless. We should never wear navy as the home team or white as the away team, literally for no better reason that it’s a solid tradition that shouldn’t be thrown out because people want less uniformity … we can wear orange any time we want!

That’s fair. I’m a big soccer fan, and in that sport the concepts of kit color is more “primary/secondary” than “light at home, dark away”. For example, Real Madrid wears all-white as its primary, while Barcelona wears dark red and navy as their primary. So when they play, no matter where the game is, RM is in white and Barca wears their “blaugrana”.

We’ve also talked about the Bragging Rights game always being some sort of color vs color game (navy vs gold, orange vs black, or orange vs gold), but that’s also a true neutral site game.

Yeah, there can really be no other explanation other than someone really likes the rebrand font unis more than our others (inexcusable) or nobody is paying attention/cares (also inexcusable)
I feel like there’s probably a perfectly bureaucratic reason for it.

Or some kind of budgeting reason. For example:

A) A redesign costs money and there are other, more pressing items for which the team needs that money. So if it comes down to, "Do you want to spend $100k on new jerseys or on upgrades to the locker room." (Just making something up), I could see jerseys getting deprioritized.

B) Similarly, if the contract with Nike states that they will give us $X millions of dollars per year to use toward apparel or whatever else we want it for (I believe this is how some of the deals work) I could see us using that money elsewhere because Brad or someone thinks the current uniforms are "good enough".

While the decision by Brad or Josh or whomever to continually forgo uniform upgrades seems perplexing from our perspectives, no one is really able to say for sure without knowing the other alternatives or opportunity costs at play.
