Couldn’t have asked for a better a better sponsor. No huge logo, no differing colors, and local. Home run from Whitman.
The colors is the big one for me. Not only were they willing to pick Illini themed colors rather than something else, they were cool with a white one, an orange one, presumably a navy one, etc. that will blend into each uniform as much as possible!

Putting advertisements on college uniforms, or any uniforms, should be sacrilegious. That being said, given the fact that this was inevitable, we could not have gotten a better jersey sponsor. As it’s been pointed out: small, local, fits the color scheme AND changes with each uniform color, doesn’t stand out in a bad way, and it’s a brand I associate with Illinois / Champaign / Fighting Illini athletics. I couldn’t possibly be happier for a uniform patch. Well done Josh!

I guess I'm in the minority but I don't know that I love the local/regional sponsor. No offense to the people at Busey. And it's a nice gesture by both parties to support local institutions. But from a branding standpoint, I'd rather have a strong national brand. Because that's what we are trying to be.

That said, I appreciate their willingness to incorporate their brand into ours. Unlike State Farm who apparently insisted on using their red logo.

By the way, State Farm continues to look good in that stadium naming deal. $2 mil / year for stadium naming vs $6 mil / year for a jersey patch.

they should get abbvie, based in N suburbs, to sponsor. the team could walk out to the skyrizi song like the bulls with the alan parsons project

While Busey is by no stretch of the imagination a nationwide brand, it is not exactly a local Champaign/Urbana area bank anymore. It operates in Illinois, including the Chicagoland area (I have seen billboard ads for it here), Indiana, and parts of Florida. I suspect it is trying to become a nationwide bank if that is possible (I don’t know the laws concerning banks).

Just to fill in a few it is located in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, New Mexico and Texas with more than 80 locations. It is definitely in a growth pattern but wisely follows a careful plan rather than just acquiring a ton of locations. I think it is a great sponsor with direct ties to the Illini for many decades. Give me that over another billionaire buying a toy to play with.

Looked it up out of curiosity and they now have 80 locations across 10 states.

Yeah it’s an $18bln bank in assets, which is respectable but still small for a regional bank. It’s a pretty bold move to spend $6mil per year for a bank that has earned about $125-135mil in net income for the last 3 years.
