Personally I've begun to adopt a don't ask don't tell view of recruiting. It has become quite evident that the NCAA lacks the desire for real enforcement and frankly I'm tired of seeing a crappy product. Not advocating dropping bags of cash but if that is what it takes do it in a way that leaves plausible deniability.

Hoo boy, I am going to have to control myself if I don't want to take another forced vacation.

Better start. You know where this guy gets most of his information from, right? It's not 3 different folks in Chicago.

Hearing from 3 different folks; Word outta Chicago: Looking like Chin Coleman will likely be tabbed as

I don't know anywhere near enough about most random assistants to have any sort of reaction to that potential hire. I liked the Antigua hire, though.

Come on. Kenny Payne makes $700,000 per year and Antigua is at least as valuable as Payne.

Maybe. But for info purposes, Antigua made $275,000 at UK before taking the USF job. The other assistants now, besides Payne, are making in the $400k range, I believe.

If Antigua were worth that, he'd be getting that.

Whatever Antigua is making is his market price. But for Walker we engaged in a bidding war against ourselves for a player that isn't coming and Coleman, woof. There are programs all over the country that would love the inside track on Mac Irvin Fire players and not one of them thought it worth the squeeze to pull Coleman out of mid-major obscurity these last several years.

Am very interested in Gentry's position. Maybe "Special Assistant to the Head Coach". I believe whatever capacity, he will be like a 4th assistant, and that will make up for any perceived weaknesses within our 3 ACs.

It's entirely possible of course that we landed well under the budget. That wouldn't match up with some of what's been rumored, but it's possible.

Your concern is that we aren't getting our money's worth before the entire staff has been announced... really?

Again we are assuming Underwood/Whitman don't know the market or who they need. Whatever Walker and new assistant are getting paid is also market price. Cuonzo made a play for Walker and Underwood determined we needed to keep him. We didn't bid against ourselves.

This. Why hasn't coleman ended up at a better program. There is either a red flag or he really wants the illinois job.

Walker is more than just a few players. He's probably the recruiter for some of the 2018 kids and is seems like a pretty decent game coach.

That was 3 years ago and Payne etal salary is largely based on the success of bringing in Boogie Cousins, John Wall, Anthony Davis etc. Calipari could then easily argue for the administration give him whatever money he needed for staff

Anything is possible but that sounds unlikely. I'd be willing to bet we paid over the original budget. Because we are doing everything we can to be big boys again in the world of college hoops.
