I’m trying so hard not to comment because the posts have to be trolling but Jake Hanson is not a safety. He’s not even a college safety. Let alone in the nfl. He’s a very good college lb but very limited physically when compared to nfl lbs. Comparing him to Antoine Winfield is mind blowing.

Sure it's a stretch but Leman was first-team (media) and second-team (coaches) all-B1G in 2006 before becoming 1st team All-American in 2007. Hansen was second-team (media) and third-team (coaches) all-B1G in 2020. Become first-team all-B1G and you're probably on one of the three AA teams.

The news about Hansen is welcome news, despite what anyone says. It’s a position where you can never have too much depth and experience.

I will say I’m more excited about the intangibles he’s bringing (experience, leadership, a great face of the team, etc.) than his actual gameplay. He’s a good LB, but there have been plenty of times he did not seem well coached.... because he probably wasn’t.

Now we have a better coaching staff. Coming back for another year is not only a benefit to Illinois, but also to Hansen. For that, I’m really excited for him!

Jake is a good college player, but he runs nearly a 4.8 on hand timer, so probably more like 4.9 on laser timer.

Funny he led the team in tackles behind the line, also has the most turnovers of Anyone in the country over the last 2 years and didn't play the whole schedule of games. RtBritt beat me.
Yeah, again he was given the most opportunity. The forced fumbles are great, but having your D depend on that is risky business and it was usually 5-10 yards downfield. I'd rather have a LB who can get off blocks and stuff at the line consistently.

I recall Barnes being in the backfield during the Wisc game more than anyone. But then for some reason went to the bench the next game??? (strained memories however). If there was such a thing as normalization for time on field - we might see a different story.

Jake also had significant (not just 'some') trouble covering on passing plays. His position coach was crap, so I am hoping a 'real' coach can see him fix some of those issues and dominate.

I just fail to see a negative here, we need depth, he helps. No one is saying he's All-American. And he doesn't count against anyone.

The negative comments are all directed at the idea that he's a legit NFL player. Everyone is happy he's coming back.

I’m really pumped to have Jake back. Arguably our best defensive player the last 2 years. A great leader and teammate by all accounts. There is no downside and quite possibly a significant upside depending on how he transitions into the new defense.

Coach Buh looked genuinely excited on twitter about Jake coming back to his LB room. Have high expectations for our D.

Any word on specific players in the new S&C program? Haven't heard squat

I saw what you did there, clean it up and don't be a jerk.😎

With Hansen now back in the fold, we'll get to truly see how two different coaches perform with essentially the same exact rosters. I'm really anxious to see how our guys perform on the field this fall!
Not the same rosters as BB's roster will have one more year of experience and one more year to get stronger. If he is any good, Illini should win at least nine games.

Lots of returning experience on both sides of the ball. Will be interesting to see what schemes Petersen and Walters draw up to keep opponents on their toes.

I can definitely see us being a 7-8 win team minimum. Bowl game in 2021!

I can't believe this is even a discussion. This makes the team better and adds much needed depth at LB. What is there to be upset about? These are not BB's "guys." He will play the kids who deserve to play.
Not upset, just don’t want to see this delay the progression of Cooper, Barnes and Tolson.

Jake being there every day in practice and the locker room and on Saturdays will be a HUGE positive for all those guys

Next Man Up when there's an injury or any other unforeseen circumstance. (like a stupid helmet to helmet call and you lose a LB) Depth is an incredible gift to have.
