Looking at the upcoming Purdue schedule.

We probably want them to win the Iowa game, yeah? To make that game against Purdue as big as possible.

Because if we lose to Purdue and Michigan, Purdue would have to lose to Iowa and one of Indiana/Northwestern for us to still win the West.

Unlikely that Purdue has the talent to beat us, but lose 2 of their remaining 3.

So let’s make Purdue a massive game and crush ‘em ✊🏼
There is logic to your point of view. I'm still probably in the camp that I want Purdue to lose as many games as possible just so we have more avenues to the title game. Maybe we can pull of the upset in Ann Arbor (unfortunately probably not). But maybe Purdue loses to Indiana in what will likely be Indiana's "super bowl," trying to ruin their archrival's season.

If Purdue and Illinois win next week I'll embrace it and loudly beat the drum for College Gameday. If Purdue loses to Iowa, I'll be at home snickering "LOL Purdont."

I think we need to fully understand what Bret is saying about this being a championship type of team. The coaching and talent is there but the difference is the attitude of the players. They have a level of dedication that is making the difference.

Even if we lose @scUM, win the rest, and then lose in the B1G Championship.....the only way Bert isn't NCOY is if Tenn. wins the Natty. That may not be how it plays out because of the SEC visibility....but what Bielema has done here is monumental. Even when compared to the Vols.

If we manage to win either of those perceived L's....Bert gets it hands down.

Apologies for the repeat post, but CUSHION PLEASE. As distasteful as it will be, I am pulling for Iowa this week.

Is anyone else worried about our 2nd half scoring? We average roughly 10 points per 2nd half against everyone, and roughly 11 points per half if we remove Chattanooga. I know we have had a lead in most of those games (and 1 of those games was with Art playing), but it has seemed we just either settle for field goals or just can't punch it in during the 2nd half of games.

There's a new The Athletic article ranking the 13 realistic CFP teams with 0 or 1 loss (after admitting if LSU won out they'd probably make it with 2 losses anyway), and they included a chart of rate statistics and rankings with team names omitted for a blind comparison:

I'd imagine after a bit of looking you'd be able to tell where Illinois is in this list, but they clearly belong in this group overall, and are clearly not the worst profile of the bunch (B by a country mile). Dinged by overall schedule strength and offensive efficiency (not helped by playing Iowa and Minnesota defenses), but those are the glaring weaknesses of the profile at this point.

So, tomorrow, I'd expect to see them anywhere from 10 to 13.

Literally no one. We had no defensive coordinator. smh.
It was worse than that - in addition to no coordinator we had at least one completely unqualified position coach, as well as others who took their lead from the Head Snoozer in Charge and took the fall off.

Is it weird that I wish Marquez Beason was here for this? He reminded me of Trent the way he stayed loyal to the Beloved and he was our highest ranked recruit in a LONG time. I always remember when tOSU was trying to get him on an Official and Illini Nation was all, “We lost him.” And he went on social media and said, “Don’t worry. I turned them down and never even considered visiting.”

Yes, because he wouldn't see the field if he was here.

This has got to be game flow. I don't think we suddenly 'can't' score in the second half; rather, we play such a long, drawn out game that we don't need to. Keep in mind that we've only allowed 17 second half points all year. TOTAL. ALL YEAR. We just don't allow teams to have the ball.

Of those 17 points, 7 were scored in the last 30 seconds of one game, and 7 were scored in the first 30 seconds of another.

That's just unbelievable.

its Beilema's philosphy. use the strength of the players you have. get a 11-15 point lead , and basically sit on the ball the entire final 20 minutes of the game.

oh, and just win, baby

read Robert Rosenthal's article that someone else posted. its all by design
