I've often thought on reviews they should be handled by a third party, and they shouldn't be told what the call in the field was. If it's 51% one way then that's what the call should be regardless of what the on field officials said. But they'll never do that because they don't want to embarrass the refs even if it leads to more calls being made correctly.
Not sure that would embaress the refs. I'd think we'd be surprised by how little a third party would change the eventual results.

The calls that would embarrass refs are the subjective ones and the ones that can't be challenged.

Love the impartial idea but you’d have to edit out any replay that included the on-field call. Would take even longer potentially. Or you’d leave the third party with incomplete information (if you excluded the replay showing the call entirely).

College football games ARE under 3 hours. They are in fact 60 minutes long. TV time outs and prolonged halftime shows are what stretch the game to 3 hours plus. I understand advertising but all these rule change suggestions aren’t cutting any of that out. They are cutting down on the actual product. It’s like food being in smaller quantities but being increased in price. We as fans get less football.

To save time just cut some commercial/ media timeouts. Oh forget it is all about money.

I agree that the half time is seems too long. I don't know how much time is needed in the locker room to enable the players to recover. That is absolutely necessary and should not be shortchanged. Anything else should be incorporated into player recovery or eliminated. As for the fans, I suggest that food drink stations need to be as efficient as possible to get the fans served and back to their seat. Speaking only for myself, the half time MI show should be shortened if it in any way lengthens halftime. Especially since the Chief has been retired.

The MI halftime performance is typically only about 8 minutes of the total halftime period with or without the chief. They know when to get on the field and when to get off. No more, no less. Any marching band is in no way shape or form the reason a football game gets extended to 3 hours.

Being a former MI member, I take this finger pointing blame game as a personal affront!! I challenge you to a duel!! Choose your musical instrument at twenty paces!!

Obligatory Texas HS football halftimes are 28 minutes long…

Yeah for me marching bands are a huge part of the football experience. Hand in glove. I know the suggestion was just to shorten the time but I’ll co-sign this response. Just think about how many times you were subconsciously bobbing your head to the drum beat or your heart beat faster as you heard the band and started small-skipping when you entered the stadium. Plus the MI have such a long, strong tradition at Illinois. This is one tradition that needs to stay put.

Maybe I'm in the unpopular opinion that I don't think the games are "too long" Truthfully, when I look at the calendar for the upcoming seasons, I pretty much block off every home game completely from my calendar. Home football games are football Saturdays at our house, and that's what our entire weekend is based on.

Likewise. I don't get the impulse to shorten games. Is this because people are parroting something they heard on sports radio or elsewhere? Why would anyone be a hurry to get a college football game over sooner? Shortening the Marching Illini so we can shave a few minutes from the overall experience? Can I please have this one source of joy for several Saturdays every autumn without people f*&^ing with the product?

It’s easy to see why players like AH. Sounds like he demands a lot but those that are motivated will do well under him.
Agree 100 percent. Completely classy interview, all the way through. I'm real impressed that he gave credit to the former staff for recruiting some of the guys. Obvious thing to do, but he did it really well.

If you're a parent, and you have a football-playing kid, you want them to play for Aaron Henry. And yeah, he's gonna be a head coach, and probably pretty soon. Let's enjoy him while he's here.

I think big picture, it shows how much Bret has changed his approach since his difficulty at Arkansas.

What he, Henry, and Walters put together is a defense that is a great counter punch to the modern CFB offensive schemes.

The Marching Illini are no doubt a great band with a storied history. I'm just not a fan of listening to pop music, etc. (eg. Spinning Wheel for what seemed like 30 years) played by a marching band. That said, though no offense intended, your honor has been challenged and you deserve the right to the duel. I choose triangles at 10 paces which I believe is standard for such affronts.

Trombone slides make great projectiles. Just sayin'.

While at the games, the only time that seems wasted are the tv timeouts. i would consider
the Nascar, golf, hockey? split screen commercials for these as keep the game moving. Baseball
has to do it and it seems a natural for it. if you cut 5-10 minutes out of halftime like an NFL game,
might trim 20 minutes out of a game.
