Illini Football 2023

This is nothing against Feagin, but it's important to point out that his rise is also associated with the offensive line playing substantially better. It's up to you to decide how to hand out the accolades.

I don't want this to sound like I know what I'm talking about too much, but my limited convo's with former linemen and coaches tells me the OL's love run blocking. It allows them to get into the game and get into a rhythm, which allows the RB and running game to get into a rhythm.
So I think your statement rings especially true.

All of the pass blocking they were forced into early on never allowed that rhythm or consistency to develop IMO. This was my biggest complaint with BL and the play calling. Too much pressure on the OL, and subsequently too much pressure on Luke.

Feagin is the kind of UW RB that we remember from BB's teams there. It's not as flashy, but man I love watching that kind of football. Everyone on the field knew what you were going to do.....didn't matter. 5 yards. Repeat.

Then Illinois needs to find better players at OL if pass blocking causes them too much pressure. It's a basic requirement of the job. I'm not sure that's going to fly in an NFL interview, "Can we start off run blocking because early pass blocking causes me to feel pressured."

I think you are twisting his words

In a traditional BB coaching world, a strong running game sets up the passing game. It worked for us last year with Chase and Tommy, and it seemas to be working better for Luke with Feagin getting the most carries now.

Context and comprehension. Don't cherry pick a few words or sentences and try to make a counterpoint without understanding the entire point.

Illinois should have been well aware they didn't have a Chase on the roster. It also didn't help playing 3 good teams rushing the passer. Combine that with a porous IL OL and it's not good. Illinois' pass blocking stinks (just like their pass rush). It's no more complicated than, they stink protecting and getting after the QB. Indiana is more their speed. Hopefully it works out well Saturday and may help IL look respectable at OL.

I bet the over of 6.5 for Illinois‘ win total this year. If Illinois manages to win 6 games and get a bowl bid would a victory get them to 7 in the eyes of the betting parlor?

Check the fine print of your ticket, but in every book that I know of, the wins totals only includes regular season. It makes sense, since there are teams that can get 2-3 more games than regular season, should they reach the conference championship game and playoff.

Looks like you will need Illini to win out last 3 games.

To add to the tweet above:

Lou Tepper: 25-31 (17-21) / 45% (45%)
Ron Turner: 35-57 (20-44) / 38% (31%)
Ron Zook: 34-51 (18-38) / 40% (32%)
Tim Beckman: 12-25 (4-20) / 32% (17%)
Lovie Smith: 17-39 (10-33) / 30% (23%)
BB: 18-17 (12-13) / 51% (48%)

This is the best coaching we’ve had in 30 years. Enjoy the ride.

I really like Mac Resetich's game. Just feel he consistently does his job along with all of the little things beyond. Really excited to see him and Bailey on the field together at the safety positions (as long as they're not slotted into the same position next year). As for our CB's, well, we will just see I suppose.
