I'm nitpicking, but not a fan of consecutive away games.
And 2 of our away games are to the (new) geographical extremes of the conference, while 2 others are to the former extremes (Nebraska and PSU).

OTOH, I LOVE to see Mizzou on the schedule for 3 straight years.
And NO Friday games.

at least one or two of these games will be moved to Friday

No Friday games for now. I can easily see a non conf being changed to Friday.

Well, for anyone looking to do a bit of a stadiums tour, you can hit up three pretty legendary ones for Illini away games before the colder November weather next year! Also, I wish we could get Mizzou back sooner ... I also wish the Rams hadn't played in a dumpy dome all those years, because I think that game is begging to be played outside in St. Louis the second or third weekend of the season with beautiful weather, and football at baseball stadiums has run its course.

Nebraska and Penn State are must visits at some point, but man those are long car trips. One day.

I've got family in Oregon so I am working to make that trip a thing, which will obviously be both a great experience and probably a game that wraps up pretty quickly.

Homecoming September 14 agains the Central Michigan Chippewas. I can't remember a non-conference Homecoming opponent. Probably have had one, but not for a long time.

As a fan, I loved it each year, though. Itā€™s unique in this day and age to have a ā€œneutral marketā€ with a big enough stadium in a fair enough location and with two fan bases passionate/large enough to pull that kind of thing off. Georgia/Florida (Jacksonville) and Texas/Oklahoma (Dallas) are the only examples I can think of ā€¦ itā€™s unique exposure, IMO.

As I said in that other post, I would support a return of that setup IF St. Louis had a viable outdoor stadium, but that dome isnā€™t worth it. Heck, I could be convinced to do Busch given how fun Ballpark Village would be. I CERTAINLY hope no one is shortsighted enough to ever move Bragginā€™ Rights away from St. Louis. Itā€™s totally and completely unique in college basketball, and now that Iā€™ve attended, I understand what a special atmosphere it is.

EDIT: For fun, I wanted to look at the attendance the Arch Rivalry game got in St. Louis. The Dome of many names has a capacity of 67,277.

2002: 61,876
2003: 63,576
2007: 62,352
2008: 66,441 (#20 Illinois vs. #6 Missouri)
2009: 64,215
2010: 58,060

Pretty good attendance overall. I am not sure what the crowd split was (Braggin' Rights seems to always be about 55% Illini and, when Mizzou is terrible, we fill our half and theirs is like 25% full), but I happened to see a post on the Mizzou board the other day where a poster said we always brought a big crowd.

Plus it will be the third straight home game to start the season. Really odd.



Also, what terrible deed is required for Illinois to beat Purdue next year?

Believe EIU was originally scheduled to start the year, before the release of the new '24 conference schedule. Would love for the staff to find a similar replacement - someone to cash in a big win and snaps for lots of depth players.

The EIU-Illinois game was supposed to be September 21, 2024.

Just to add onto what Dan posted, the earliest Illinois homecoming prior to this was on October 1, which has happened multiple times. Most recently it was during the 2011 season when the Illini defeated Northwestern (yes, we played them at times other than Thanksgiving weekend) 38-35. Back and forth game that mainly consisted of TD passes from Scheelehaase to A.J. Jenkins for the Illini and from Dan Persa to Jeremy Ebert:

I want that series to be pushed back a year. It's death to have two P5 non-conference opponents scheduled in the new B1G. As of today, here is the 2026 schedule:
