Why do we get stuck playing Penn State again?

Most likely being 2-3 going into the bye isn't the worst...

Win 2 of the last 3 possible???

Schedule is pretty rough overall. I don't like our chances to go bowling.
We‘re gonna play 3, maybe 4 ranked teams. That’s about as good of a schedule as you’re gonna get in the power 2.

This schedule shakes out well.

You've got 3 games that are assumed losses (Penn St, Oregon, Michigan). Every other game is winnable. A bowl game is definitely on the table.
I think we can beat Penn State.

I really hope that one day we wise up and stop scheduling home and away football series. Play your three nonconference games at home against non-P5 teams. Michigan does it and they seem to be doing okay. We've had 60 years of scheduling lunacy. And the renewal of the series with Miznoz tells me Josh hasn't learned from Guenther's mistakes.

I agree about the Mizzou series. However, "hasn't" does not appear to be accurate. I think he has learned, but hadn't at the time the Mizzou series was scheduled. Josh has said that in light of the current state of the B1G they need to be "careful about nonconference scheduling moving forward." What that sounded like was fewer power 5 non-con opponents. Now, what they can do with the Mizzou series at this point? I am not sure. I'd love for them to cancel it, but I don't know how possible that is. Beyond that, I think we will see more of the "cupcake" games we will seriously need to get to six wins.

Just to be clear, are you saying we ought to be like Michigan?
If so....

Nah
If you want to be the best, you've got to beat the best. scUM's strategies look like a team that wants to be the champ but doesn't want to put in all the work (scheduling, sign stealing, etc.).

If this is true why are they scheduled to play Texas or Oklahoma the next four years? They've played tough noncon games in the past (Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida, Utah, Washington). These schedules are really hard to put together and finding a willing opponent with the right openings where the timing works out is not automatic. Yes it's convenient that they had cakewalk noncon games these years when they were really good. But there is no way this could have been a sneaky plan to win a championship these years when these schedules get made ~10 years in advance.

I get the Michigan hate here, but sometimes its just silly.

Looking forward to 2024 season

1. Healthy Keadin rumbling for 130 yards per game!
2. Experience Luke Altmyer throwing for 300 yards per game with minimal interceptions
3. Next generation of lockdown corner backs putting our defense back into top 10

I'm optimistic about 2 of the 3

But at this point, there is a 0% chance of Illinois being the best. Most of us are looking for 7 to 8 wins. We are nowhere near being a contender for a NC. Let’s learn to crawl first.

Safeties coach Kerry Cooks let go yesterday by LSU. Any interest in picking him up?
My best friend is a huge LSU fan. He was so happy their entire defensive coaching staff was let go. He hated their backfield coaches in particular.
