I have wondered why after 40 years, we continue to schedule these non conference opponents. Why can’t our ADs understand think.

But that game doesn't get you anything anymore anyway. 6-6 bowl games won't even be played in 2-3 years.
While true, it's at a position where we dearly need impact players and depth. It's hard being very disruptive on defense without quality DTs
While true, the Big Ten is not a charity league. We can't and shouldn't guarantee anyone playing time based on seniority. If you want guaranteed playing time, either earn it or drop down a level.
Didn't mention Cal Swanson. For those in the know, what's up with Cal?
I don't think anyone is making the case there should be guaranteed playing time. It's about missing an eval at an important position rather late in the cycle. If it's already clear he's not good enough to earn significant minutes over what we currently have (which isn't much), then we prioritized the wrong portal target
I think a lot of it has to do with how good the freshman dt have looked. We still have a couple holes to fill during the next portal cycle.
