We lost the game vs them at home in 2009 in like the absolute most heart breaking fashion, deflected 2pt conversion to OL who fell into the end zone.

We've really had to endure some absolutely deflating moments as fans haven't we...
That play happened right in front of me in the NEZ student section. It was truly mind boggling

I was in the Marching Illini then and watched from the field behind the end zone when Fresno State scored that 2 point conversation, I was less than 50 ft from where it happened. It took MINITES for the refs to review that play.

The game was absolutely cold and the slight wind didn't help. I don't have the attendance numbers but the stadium was basically empty. If there were more than 15k there at peak, I would be surprised. The only section that was 'full' was the band.

can definitely file this under most surprising stat so far this season
Maybe we should just play Nebraska and a Michigan school the rest of the year. 16 of the 22 sacks came in those 3 games (6 @Nebraska, 5 each Mich and MSU), whereas only 6 came in the other 4 games.

AVG: 5.33 sacks per game vs Neb/Mich/MSU; 1.5 sacks per game in other B1G games (only 1 sack against lowly Purdue!)

yep, remembered they came in bunches and we need to consistently get pressure in QBs game in and game out.

that said, i still think its note worthy for what it is

Appears to be a strong correlation between getting pressure on the QB and getting good results.

Contributing Seniors still on the team from the classes of 2020 and 2021

2020
- Fabrizio Pinton
- Hugh Robertson

2021
- Pat Bryant
- Josh Kreutz
- Josh Gesky
- Josh McCray
- Kenenna Odeluga
- Alec Bryant (transfer)
- Dylan Rosiek (injured)
- Tyler Strain (injured most of the year)

Some really good players listed above, but getting to 8-3 (2 losses being to top 4 teams) with that few number of seniors is extremely impressive

The number of mistakes this team needed to overcome for that win, was stress-testing. But then they kept building magic.

Just wondering, since it must have changed since August...what's the over/under now? :)

14. 1973
15. 2010
Testing my old age memory as I don't remember illini doing that well, and they didn't; as 1976 illini were 5-6 in 4 way tie for 3rd place. So if that is Top 10, that's really sad...

If we beat Northwestern, where does it put us?

They're ranked very high because they played a hellacious schedule. Here are the end-of-season SRS rankings for each team they played matched up with the current team's rank of opponent quality:

#1 Michigan..........#4 Oregon
#3 Texas A&M..........#5 Penn State
#7 Ohio State..........#33 Kansas
#18 Missouri..........#34 Nebraska
#28 Baylor..........#35 Minnesota
#32 Minnesota..........#38 Michigan
#36 Wisconsin..........#53 Rutgers
#45 Purdue..........#83 Northwestern
#52 Michigan State..........#106 Purdue
#58 Iowa..........#119 Central Michigan
#92 Northwestern..........FCS Eastern Illinois
*Left off #75 Michigan State to compensate for the '76 team only playing 11 games.

So imagine the current team removing the EIU and CMU games and replacing them with #7 Notre Dame and #18 BYU, plus the bottom of your schedule being 15-20 spots better across the board.
