can some one tell me why Josh McCray isn't the #1 running back?
is it his health? something else? when he is out there he is the man.

Just speaking to general terms of deterrents to him being a #1 B1G running back:

- Needs to improve in passing downs. He's a decent blocker, but little threat in the passing game.
- Needs to miss a lot more tackles. You can't be a big back and only average 1.2 missed tackles forced per game.
- Consistency. He has longer runs than you would expect for a bigger back but that also means he has way too many TFLs and short gains.

As long as both are healthy I feel like Josh and Feagin are going to be co-#1s basically splitting carries, with Loughery and Valentine getting the rest or for situational downs.
it must have been basically health related stuff, because he was deep in the rotation for a good part of last year.

A number of players will be Spring Breaking in the Los Angeles area this weekend.

Bret Bielema: 20 guys won't go through spring ball

- RB Kaden Feagin (everything on track)
- LB TJ Griffin (shoulder)
- OL JJ Hirdes (knee surgery prior to coming here)
- WR Ashton Hollins (shoulder)
- DB Andre Lovett (shoulder, pre-existing)
- OL TJ McMillen (shoulder)
- WR Mario Sanders and TE Cole Rusk out at beginning but should be back midway
- OL Dez Schuster (shoulder)
- DB Miles Scott (foot)
- DB Xavier Scott (general)
- TE Grant Smith (shoulder)
- DB Tyler Strain (shoulder)
- OL Eddie Tuerk (foot)
- DL Jeremiah Warren (shoulder)

Man, lots of shoulder injuries here.

Based on his production at the end of last year, it will be difficult to not have Loughery heavily in the rotation. He brings a burst that McCray & Feagin simply don't have.

I wonder if this is an anomaly or if the emphasis on staying away from the head is causing this? Defenders lead with the shoulder. Offensive players get hit more in the shoulders. Lineman - probably the same as always.

Either way, it's easier to repair a shoulder than a brain.

Or has surgery come to a point where is better to go in more frequently microscopically and clean things up than old school play through the injury?

Legit question: are missed tackles and broken tackles tracked separately or do they both count as "missed tackles?"

My friend asked me what sports team in Illinois, college and pro, has the best chance to win a championship? There was a time I would have ranked Illinois Football dead last, but now, I would put them closer to the top. Am I drinking the orange and blue Kool-Aid?

back off the koolaide!
LOL! The sports landscape in Illinois is pretty bleak.
1. Cubs
2. Illinois Basketball
3. Illinois Football
4. Bears
5. Bulls
6. Blackhawks
7. White Sox
8. Northwestern Basketball
9. Northwestern Football
10. Any other college sports team in Illinois

The running back that everyone wants to play LB will be the starting RB as long as recovery keeps going well
I'd like to see him at TE, forget the LB spot. A faster Tyler Warren.

But if he can actually find and/or get to the interior hole this year, he'll be fantastic. He's gotten lost in the past.

And it seems TE's are every bit as valuable to the NFL these days.

Drink less kool-aid. I do think they have a coach that could position them to contend at a higher level than in 30 plus years. However the 12 team playoff makes it harder as you have to win 3 or 4 games (most likely) to get it done. I'd say Bret is building something that could have a few cracks at it in coming years. For this coming year, they could make the playoff or could just as likely go 8-4 but the thought they could win it seems a bit of folly tbh.

They just don't have the depth of high level talent across the board to think they could beat a string like OSU, Bama, Georgia or ND in multiple games in a row. They can get there, but it will take time & some luck. Even if they don't, if Bret can string together a bunch of 8 plus win seasons over a 15 year career he retires from IL as a legend & perhaps with his name on the wall at the end of the stadium.
