That’s a lot of time and effort from this staff to lose him. Wasn’t he Brett’s very first recruit? Or am I mistaken? Something broke in this relationship.

Horrible is a stretch. They've still got more than enough pieces to contribute. Plus, opens the door up for a guy like Valentine a little bit too.

McCray is probably getting 5-7 carries a game if Feagin is healthy. I really liked him as a player and thought he ran really well between the tackles. I don’t blame him for wanting a bigger role his last year for football

Is it me or does it seem strange to anyone else how the football portal opens right in the middle of pre-season prep? Where the basketball portal opens right at the end of the season.

Is it just due to academics and the school year (does that even matter anymore 😜)?

Always seems like it’s so late to be switching the roster up during the football portal season.

There's two portal seasons for football, the first is right after the season ends and the other is during spring ball. The second gives players a chance to transfer if they were going to be buried on the depth chart and for teams to find guys to plug holes they still have. There's still plenty of time over the summer and fall camp for pre-season prep.

Just as the football board was becoming a sanctuary for good news from the basketball board......

This hurts McCrays a better back than feagin- should’ve givin McCray Feagins money and let Feagin walk or change positions

Funny thing, I am out here in Chandler AZ where Ca'Lil Valentine played HS ball. Ran into his Aunt at the grocery. She was repping one of his shirts so I walked up and introduced myself as a huge Illinois fan. Told her how excited I was about this coming season and that I hoped to see him get some carries and take a bigger role. Little did I know........

The issue with this is It’s obvious Josh McCray was talking to other teams. He just didn’t come out of nowhere and decide he was going to transfer in April. My thing is be a man a be straight with the coaches and your fellow teammates. His spring reps could have been going to another Illinois player that was going to stay. Bret and Illinois stood by McCray when I was Advocating for him to be released from the team because he couldn’t stay healthy. I don’t wish Josh McCray good or bad I’m indifferent. McCray will be gone and forgotten. I hope Bret uses this as a learning lesson these dudes not loyal no matter how you support them

If Feagin and Laughery are healthy all year, this won't be much of a problem at all. But obviously both have had several issues with injuries in the past, as did McCray.

What was the best about having all three is that combined they were kind of insurance for each other when someone got hurt.

Now would be a good time for that first fully healthy season fellas!

That's the thing. It's why I cannot be upset with the kid himself. I am upset he's leaving, but I am in no position to judge him for it. If he can make another $100k somewhere else, you have to seriously consider it. I have no idea what the number is or might be. It's just an example.
Goodbye and good luck Josh. We'll always have the Citrus Bowl. Come back and see us sometime.
