If Altmyer repeats last year's stat line, his stat ranking in Illinois QB history (minimum 200 passing attempts):

Completions: 6th
Comp%: 6th
Passing Yards: 5th
TDs: 2nd
Passer Efficiency Rating: 2nd

No Illinois QB has 40+ passing TDs and/or 7000+ passing yards without four years of playing time at Illinois. Altmyer has a chance to pass both (TDs possibly by week 1).

Add in being a vocal leader type and he's a classic good vibes local kid training camp practice squad guy, and then a series of crazy events made him a media star.

I was shocked he made a roster because of his genuinely minus arm strength, something I figured was disqualifying. It's definitely why he'll never be a starter for any length of time, there are just a lot of throws an NFL QB has to have that he doesn't.

Luke's arm talent is average, playable. But like TDV he's pretty ordinary from a height/length/bulk perspective, and his low release point and slingshotty delivery tends to make those measurables play down. He's very fast in the open field but not very fluid, pretty average from an escapability/athleticism perspective.

I'm honest enough to admit I was a Luke hater a year ago, he just did not take care of the ball well enough for a B1G QB, let alone an NFL one in 2023. He improved a ton. If he makes yet another leap in terms of his decision making, accuracy, and physicality, hey, anything is possible.

Chase Daniel's has made a nice NFL career without the physical traits to be a consistent starter. Not being a dbag goes a long way for a backup qb in the league lol

Getting a reputation as a "great backup" is an amazingly lucrative thing.

Daniel would have been drafted if he had that sort of college career today. Being the wrong side of 6 feet was a draft death sentence in his day.

No better gig in professional sports than what Chase Daniel had. 14 years, $41 million, and none of the major damage a long NFL career typically leaves players with.

I know is it very early and official game times are dictated by TV, but I am trying to plan a medium-sized get together next fall at a game. Anyone have any insight into probable game times for the first few games: Western IL, Western Mi, USC (homecoming) and Ohio State games? Thanks!

My boy Cool Hand Luke is a natural born world shaker, could probably eat 50 eggs too if he had to. Excited to see his continued growth as he leads the Illini to new heights in 2025. Coach B has been masterful in retention of key players, building a top staff of coaches, roster construction, NIL management, recruitment, readying top players for the NFL, and program promotion. Illinois football is on an upswing that we have not experienced in decades.

no matter what anyone says , it will be different

no one knows until 2-3 weeks prior unless it’s a weekday game night . I thought i read there was a chance one of those first 2 home games could be a Friday night .

It appears the roster is currently around 114 players with Bray and Orr leaving. It also appears there’s quite a few walk-ons still on the team. That said, at what point will we cut down to 105? In May after classes end?

Here's when various items of the 2024 schedule were set. (Unknown if it'll be the same timeframe for 2025 but it'd be nice if it's consistent.)

May 22nd - FOX Friday night games announced.

May 30th:
- Every Big Ten home game up to Week 3 was given a set kickoff time & TV, and all Homecoming games after Week 3 were given a kickoff window. (Key word is window, so we may or may not get a set USC Homecoming kickoff time in the offseason.)
- @Duke (Sept 6th): Last season the ACC announced early-season kickoffs (and any shifts to Friday night) also on May 30th.

Ohio State kickoff (Oct 11th) will probably be announced on Monday September 29th.

Seems like best big ten qb is either altmyer or Allar, with more preferring Allar.

I was not impressed with Allar against Illinois and he did have some pretty big mental mistakes in the season. Probably more physical talent than Luke and probably more nfl potential, but one of many good things about Luke is he doesn’t make many mistakes and I think throws a better ball.

Then the “5 star” guys… they should lose that label as a predictor this coming season. The one I’m curious about is the Nebraska guy, if he takes a leap forward watch out. Never been impressed with the others, particularly Moore but he has the benefit of playing at Oregon now. He can just be average and itll look good. I feel ucla is a sinking ship and despite them doing better than I thought last season, not sure Nico can make much of a difference. I see parallels there with dj uiagelelei. Sayin will probably do well, in large part b/c he’s pretty good on his own but Osu is always stacked. USC will probably start multiple qbs this season. The rest are pretty granola. I like the Rutgers guy, but he’s more of a ‘football player’ whose position happens to be qb.

Long way of saying I wouldn’t take any of them over Altmyer.

I'm not sure if it's that Penn State's receivers are bad, they're bad at developing them, or Allar can't find them. I don't understand how a school that's a powerhouse has not had better WR's. Allen Robinson is the only one I can name off the top of my head.
