Such a nuisance having Michigan, Oklahoma, Florida, Miami, etc. chasing us.I could get used to this:
Man that graphic is the worst. Why do it alphabetically? Highest odds to lowest please.
That doesn't look alphabetical to me?!?! I might have to consult my grade school teachers on this though. Looks like someone threw those name in a hat and had a random drawing....Man that graphic is the worst. Why do it alphabetically? Highest odds to lowest please.
I'm just not sold on Allar like many seem to be. I see PSU picked 1st in B1G by a LOT of people..... I guess, maybe. Not sold on Franklin either. I guess the combo of Allar AND Franklin both being suspect is what's holding me back. Don't see it....I like this list a bit better: https://247sports.com/college/illin...-quarterback-after-spring-practice-249762238/

Let these opinions go. The Illini in 2023 had many breaks go against them and that is why they finished 5-7. Every team has to have breaks or things go their way. Your record is your record. I'm impressed by Bielema because every team he has had at Illinois was a BOWL QUALITY TEAM. Those two 5-7 teams were good enough to make a bowl but lack of offense or bad defense denied these opportunities. Players come and go but Bielema has proven he can recruit and retain good players. Sit back and enjoy the ride.Honestly, there’s a part of me that is still waiting to believe it’s right in front of me.
1. We’ve usually not handled expectations well. An object in motion tends to stay in motion.
2. Yeah, we went 10-3 last year, but in that 10-3, we had:
- EIU
- Kansas, not what we thought they were and squeaked by
- CMU, 30-9 not indicative of how close it felt comparably.
- Nebraska, not *great* and had to have Raiola be an idiot backpedaling to guarantee that one
- PSU, lost and looked outgunned.
- Purdue, you held it together but it was way way closer than need to be
- Michigan, perfect day, trick play, and an abysmal QB situation (Michigan that beat Alabama was not the Michigan we played, TBH)
- Oregon - again, outgunned. That was a whooping.
- Minnesota - you didn’t look good, and kept it close, but lost at home to a fringe top 25 team
- Michigan State - was not a good football team, down players, but you handled business. No complaints there.
- Rutgers - you needed a last second miracle for that win and a mess up by Schiano assisted.
- NU - kicked their butts but they aren’t a good football team.
- South Carolina - no complaints, that one was fun.
3. Pat Bryant isn’t here anymore and he saved you a lot.
4. Losing McCray actually sucks. Big time.
5. Our defense and offense got a lot of complaints last year but figured it out when it mattered. Does that get corrected or not?
6. Depth really ain’t what I’d like it to be.
Now, I am just using this to make the argument. I can flip all of these. But really, it’s all I need to say that a 7-5 season is definitely in the realm of possibility and 5-7 is absolutely possible if the wheels fall off. I am certainly expecting 8-9 wins with 10-11 being a stretch goal pre-bowl, but that changes quickly once we see real football.
Was also surprised to see Dante Moore, who only saw a handful of plays last year, as the player with the third best odds. I know he’s good, but still a little unproven at that highest level. Not saying he won’t get there, just surprised.I'm just not sold on Allar like many seem to be. I see PSU picked 1st in B1G by a LOT of people..... I guess, maybe. Not sold on Franklin either. Anyone else still shocked to see us being considered a top 10 or 15 team? Only a few years ago it would have been considered a stretch to be in a bowl discussion. Great job BB and team!
The last time I felt this optimistic going into an lllini football season was 1990. I'd just finished grad school and departed C-U in August. The Reds won the World Series that fall, stunning the A's with a sweep. That's how long ago it was.

I love seeing bitter Nebraska and ND fans on there. The one ND fan is giving me a headache with his logic. He's saying Illinois won't be there because Illinois didn't have good recruiting rankings the last few years. Totally ignoring the fact that Illinois returns the vast majority of the team from last year.
lol. It's like 50 yrs ago when the French had an aneurysm because in a blind taste test California reds beat theirs savagely.I love seeing bitter Nebraska and ND fans on there. It’s more fun for sure.I’d rather be underrated and sneak up on people.
That sure is a nice problem to have. It’s more fun for sure.
It’s a whole different vibe being an unknown vs known commodity. The pressure is gonna be on us most games as the favorite now.
