See Melvin Priestly.

(1) The what about-ism is an endless game. There are guys like Priestly and Badovinac who perform immediately and perform well, but there are also Dylan Davis, Bervyn Jones, and Blake Jeresaty.

(2) Priestly was brought onto a team that needed to find two new o-line starters. He was one of a few guys - Wigenton, Whitenack, Crisler, Schuster, etc. that were going to compete for the open spot. This was made clear throughout the 23-24 offseason. It's fair to say there was general belief that Wigenton was going to be one of the starters (ope), but the coaches and beat reporters were in lockstep that it was going to be a competition.

(3) The 2025 team is bringing back essentially five starters. We can quibble about Crisler, but he was replaced by the end of the year with Henderson. The only change being serious discussed going back to December is whether Priestly is going to move to guard because that's his NFL future. This is a different environment than 2024.

(4) Priestly was getting raised up the depth chart from discussions based on his spring and fall camp practices. All of the McMillan talk is before he's even joined the team.

There's a non-zero chance that McMillan starts, but it's a much bigger task for Priestly to break into the '24 starting line than McMillan breaking into the '25 starting line. I'm also rooting somewhat against McMillan to start this coming season because it likely signals things about Henderson/Hansen that are not good and/or it implies fall camp injuries.

about time we got some bulletin board material...
Here’s more. ESPN also doesn’t have us top 20 in chance to win a NC either. CBS at least has us preseason ranked 12th (ranking that is, not likelihood of winning NC).

If you’re not in the top 12, your chances for a national championship are (or should be) close to zero. Of course, starting and finishing in the top 12 are different things, as more becomes known during the season. However, anyone you feel today will finish among the top 12 should be on your current forecast to end there too. Maybe the gap just reflects acknowledgement that lesser ranked SEC teams have an edge for making the playoff.

I'm glad to see all the angst about scheduling power 5 non-conference opponents has apparently died. That along with the "bowl games are pointless exhibition games" narrative were really annoying. Hopefully everyone sees the payoff when you bet on your program. Here's to more winning and exciting football seasons.
