Collin Dixon will be a stud by the time he’s done. Very possibly this year’s WR1, and three years of eligibility remaining.

It’s why you should never just throw away the redshirt; sad the staff doesn’t like to utilize it more. Zero chance he does, but a guy like Braden Trimble should absolutely preserve that year. Literally the 8th receiver.

Do they oversell tickets? I’d rather them sell an unlimited amount of student tickets and then do first come first serve for the games then “sell out”. Know the team is better than it has been but there’s many cases (at least was when I was on campus during the mid-2010s) of people buying student tickets if they want to go to 2-4 games.

Overbook it by about 20%, make entry first come - first seated (addressing @Mr. Tibbs concern), and allow latecomers into any unsold seats in the east balcony corners or beneath it.

Hope this is what they do. Just as a former student, there’s a lot of people that for the ticket price are fairly fickle / won’t go to every game

A couple of thoughts on this:

1. The staff has said that they’ll never force a kid to redshirt, so many of the players who are playing as freshman likely made that decision on their own.

2. With the transfer portal, a 5th year isn’t guaranteed.

3. By the time the current freshman are seniors, redshirts will likely be removed and replaced with 5 years to play.

I don't disagree that a lot of student season ticket holders will only go to a few games, but I really don't think they are stopping anybody from going to the other games. If there are students out there wanting to go to every game, they bought their season tickets already. The big difference between today and when you were a student is now they could theoretically find somebody to take a free/cheap student ticket to attend a game they aren't going to. Not the case in the Beckman era.

Additionally, now that the student tickets are gone, I bet we see a little more movement of tickets in the East Balcony for WIU and WMU games specifically from students that were late to the party and are looking to still go to the game.

It is gratifying to all of us who never lost the faith that it can and is being done at Illinois. For years we had to endure the naysayers saying’Illinois is a basketball school’ or ‘Illinois just isn’t serious about football’ or they concluded there was something in the water.

I remember bumping into Teddy Greenstein years ago when Lovie was here and NW was winning and he told me this. I’d love to bump into him again.

Go Illini!!

It took the right hire. JW will go down in history as one of the great Illinois AD’s if for no other reason than he nailed the football hire with BB.

The best thing about it is that BB is so perfect for Illinois I don’t see him ever leaving? BB could be the coach here for say 15+ years and will probably build what Illinois football is based on for the next 30-50 years. It is truly amazing that he has been able to do that in what many consider one of the toughest jobs in the country?

I friggin love this! My two regrets in college were 1) not asking this one girl out and 2) not going to many football games or basketball games and taking advantage of it. My idiot self didn't get into college sports until AFTER graduating. Go figure. But part of the reason I didn't go was that football was not great and it wasn't the thing to do. So glad that we have the student section sold out. Students want to be there and are looking forward to cheering our university on! Love it and you could tell that Coach B was truly excited. ILL!
