I posted in the Purdue pregame thread about keeping the Purdue Cannon trophy on our side of the state border, and I also alluded to us currently having two of our three Big Ten trophies right now ... with a shot at reclaiming the third vs. OSU in under two weeks! It got me thinking about the last time that we had all three. So (since this honestly helped me keep track), this is how many of the three we had AFTER each season below since 2000. Green means we won it or kept it that year, red means we lost it and/or still didn't have it back.

--- Ron Turner Era ---
2000
- Northwestern ... Purdue (lost it in 1998) ... Ohio State
2001 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State
2002 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State
2003 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State (lost it in 2002)
2004 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State (lost it in 2002)

--- Begin Ron Zook Era ---
2005
- Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State
2006 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State
2007 - Northwestern ... Purdue (lost it in 2006) ... Ohio State
2008 - Northwestern ... Purdue (lost it in 2006) ... Ohio State
2009 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State
2010 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State
2011 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State

--- Begin Tim Beckman Era ---

2012 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State
2013 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State
2014 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State

--- Begin Bill Cubit Interim Season ---
2015
- Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State

--- Begin Lovie Smith Era ---
2016
- Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State (lost it in 2015)
2017 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State
2018 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State (lost it in 2017)
2019 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State (lost it in 2017)
2020 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State (lost it in 2017)

--- Begin Bret Bielema Era ---
2021
- Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State (lost it in 2017)
2022 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State (lost it in 2017)
2023 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State (lost it in 2017)
2024 - Northwestern ... Purdue ... Ohio State (lost it in 2017)
2025 - Northwestern (as of now) ... Purdue (as of now) ... Ohio State (as of now)

So some fun stats...
- This is the first time we have played all three of these rivals in the same season since 2017 ... a pretty crazy testament to the changing landscape of college football conferences, if you ask me. :(
- With that said, I cannot say I am super bummed about not having Ohio State as an annual protected opponent in the current landscape. :ROFLMAO:
- This is the first time we have had two of the trophies since 2010 ... real dark stretch there. Pretty crazy that Lovie literally only had one for ONE year the entire time he was here. Granted, he only played OSU once, but ... 0-5 vs. Northwestern?? Brutal. They had some good teams in there, but a lot of these losses were straight-up beatdowns.
- We'll get our chance soon to take the Illibuck back for the first time since 2007. Even with conference realignment and changing schedules, that is still a crazy long time! OSU has won the last 8 in a row, but before that it was literally a 12-11 series in favor of the Buckeyes from 1983 to 2007. Very underrated rivalry!
- The main point ... if we beat Purdue and OSU this year, we have the chance to have all three trophies in Champaign for the first time since October 11, 2002. By the time we would potentially beat Purdue and upset OSU, that would be 23 years to the day and end a depressing streak of 8,401 days. Let's do it.

It would be so Illinois to lose the Cannon on Saturday and somehow steal the Illibuck back next week.

Seems like Luke Altmyer is a strong candidate for Illinois QB coach is a couple years

I think Luke might have an nfl career for a few years. Don’t know if he has high end arm talent but could be a solid backup. Smart mobile and doesn’t turn it over. A guy like that can stay in the league for a while.
He reminds me so much of Kirk Cousins in so many different ways. He may fool many people.

Chase Daniel's comp?
It’s a little hard to judge cause we aren’t a sling it around kind of team. I just know a smart guy that doesn’t throw it to the other team has some value in the nfl. He’s got a solid arm. Don’t know if it’s nfl starter worthy but being a backup can pay good $ too.

Average NFL career of quarterback selected in 3-5 rounds is 3 years.
