In the spirit of Thanksgiving I have to say how grateful I am for this group of seniors. They have been a part of one of the best 4 year stretches in program history and have really set the bar for a bright future!

In my long experience as an Illini football fan, I never thought I'd be disappointed in a 7-5 record, let alone possibly 8-4. But perspectives change I suppose. I do think the loss of Xavier Scott really altered a lot in the secondary. To use a basketball analogy, I'd compare him to a rim protector, someone whose presence helps others in their coverage. I realize they were short on DBs at the time, but the fact that he got hurt late in a blowout is something that bothers me more than some other obvious deficiencies.
The biggest problem is that Henry's approach to helping cover for lack of good pass coverage is just the opposite of what it should be. If you only rush 3 or 4 all the time the quarterback is going to end with all the time in the world to make his throws. I don't care if you have some the best dbs and safeties in the country if you give even just an average qb that much time they will pick you apart. The best way to help your defensive backfield is to keep the quarterback running for his life and hearing footsteps making his life miserable. Got to blitz and run schemes all day to keep them from getting comfortable. I would be nice to watch one of our games and see such an assault on the quarterback instead of it being Luke most of the time.

I know that. When I say slip into the third round I mean he might move up to a Friday night pick but his play this year looks more like an early 4th

I was told reliably on this board that Jacas wasn’t having a very good season?
Depending on when people said that, there's some stats to back it up.

I'm not here to knock on Jacas, as he has definitely been solid. However, I think a lot of the angst regarding how "good" he's been is due to the fact that he seems to just not show up in big games this year. Yes, he leads the B1G in sacks, but he got 6.5 of those sacks in the last 4 games. Against arguably the weakest stretch of our schedule. He had 5.5 through the first 7. His tackling numbers are way down too. Another weird side note: in our 4 losses, he only has 2 sacks... both against Wisconsin. He was a non-factor against IU, OSU, and Wash.

What I will say, however, is that I don't necessarily think he's had a down year. I think Henry hasn't utilized his presence correctly this year.

Well if 8-4 and first back to back 8 win seasons in 35 years doesn’t indicate success, I guess leading the big in sacks does not indicate success either. It’s human nature that people are going to think differently, but it boggles my mind the folks that are disappointed right now.
