Jeremy was recently saying that he thought we had the funds to compete. The problem is, we currently have the funds to compete in last year’s financial landscape, but last year’s financial landscape is very different than this year’s:

I was hoping this was not the case, but here we are.

I'm still thinking 7-8 wins is reasonable for us next year.

Is it too late for Bret and Josh to re-evaluate? I don't want a coach that's not all in and it sounds like he is just here to collect a check.

(And I don't trust weasels)

Sounds like he was just honest. I mean he is a Michigan HS and Michigan legend. I'm sure they've checked everything out before hiring. The quote isn't all peaches and cream but that type of transparency and honesty is a staple of the program from accounts I've read. Interested to see the caliber of RB he brings in.

Agree as well, but the funny thing is that the end of his comment bothers me more than the beginning.

I totally get still loving your alma mater (though keep that to yourself please), but the feet comment just makes me think "where's the next place those feet will take him, and how fast is he walking".

This is depressing, but it's not like we all didn't know it.

Basically, it seems we will be playing for 7th place.
not exactly
it means its going to take a real comfortable schedule ( see Indiana 2024) AND a little luck to ever get into the top 3. most years we will be fighting real hard for 4th or 5th and a shot at one of the last bids for the CFP.

I don’t think we are destined for 6th or 7th pl just based on payroll . And I also don’t think this current system of the wild wild west is going to last all that much longer . no on predicted this 4 years ago , and no one can predict what things will be like in 2030 either .

it’s a dynamic environment. buckle up .

Where do we think we are in the B1G in football investment?

Ohio St.
Michigan
Oregon
Indiana
Penn St.
USC
Nebraska
Iowa
Washington

^^^ those 9 are likely all ahead of us.

Then you’ve got:

Wisconsin
Minnesota

^^^ likely in the same ballpark

And then:

UCLA
Northwestern
Purdue
Maryland
Rutgers

^^^ all likely behind us

Bret’s not saying we operated at half that. We spent over 25 million between the recruiting class, transfer class and retention.
So $25M is the number for 2026? Better than I would have guessed.

I really don’t know . not sure everyone in your upper tier is ahead of us . I question if Iowa & Washington are . I will assume Nebraska & USC are

For the 2026 fiscal year, the University of Iowa is preparing to implement a revenue-sharing "salary cap" of approximately $15 million

For the 2026 fiscal year (FY26), the University of Washington (UW) is budgeting more than $20 million annually

Maryland is projecting a significant increase in its football player budget, with plans for a $25 million NIL budget for the 2026-2027 season.

In 2025–26, the University of Minnesota is implementing a revenue-sharing plan expected to distribute approximately $21.3 million to student-athletes. Football is projected to receive about 75% of this total, roughly $15.97 million,

We are in the bottom 5-7

How do you calculate bottom 5-7 from your analysis?

There is no calculation - do your own homework - go and do the research. Ohio State, Michigan, Indiana Penn State, Nebraska, USC, Oregon, Washington, Purdue, Iowa, MSU, Maryland, Rutgers, Wisconsin are all over $15mm. UCLA most likely as well. As to where Minnesota, Northwestern come out isn't public.

Okay….but it seems you think we spent 15 million based on this statement. So it’s hard to take your conclusion seriously when your “homework” appears to not include the post literally 5 above yours where 0440 said we spent $25 million, which is above Iowa, Washington, and Minnesota in your original post. I’d bet it’s more than Northwestern, Purdue, UCLA, and Rutgers as well. We can probably assume we are less than OSU, PSU, Oregon, USC, Michigan, Nebraska, Indiana(?)

Sooo I’d wager we fall somewhere in the middle 4 rather than bottom 7/top 7.

Do we think we will come out of spring ball with a prelim 2 deep, at least on the OL? Lots of new players there from JC/portal to go along with the homegrown risers.
