Illini Football 2026

Perry is a Class of 2022.

With redshirts now gone, that means this was his 5th and final year.
I’d imagine we paid big bucks for both Perry and Platt (Perry actually had better stats of the two last season).

With Clement and Dixon locked up, only one of them was going to play starting reps. So I think it’s fair to question going all in on both, with the other flaws that exist on our roster.

However - if we went after Perry and didn’t get Platt, and now Perry gets hurt, that’d really hurt the WR room. Not to mention Platt currently looking like a huge addition.

The hardest part of football is getting the right stuff out of training camp without losing anyone to injury.

And this is why I've never really warmed to the 5-for-5 rule. Just seems incredibly unfair when it plays out like this, or in the case of a guy who has terrible injury luck and loses multiple years to injury. I get that people didn't like how inexact the medical redshirts rule was, that there was too much gray area. But I think the ability to function in the gray can be useful. People love bright line rules in theory, but when actually implemented the results often look harsh.
