back at in a couple of days, field is not bad but not great 6 teams in the top 40 but only a three in the top 25 with us leading the pack. Kind of tourney you would like to flex your muscles in but plenty of punch from the other squads. Start of big spring.

Must've missed this one: in November, we got another verbal from the Class of '26: Le Khanh Hung from Vietnam. Pretty accomplished amateur - made match play in the U.S. Amateur, finished 8th in the Australian Amateur last month. He's already in the Top 200 in the world amateur rankings, which is higher than 4 of our current Illini. Welcome Le!

Not in bad shape after day one, T-2. Jackson continues his stellar play. This guy is gonna be on the tour next year if he keeps this up. Awesome.

As kinda a theme for the year we just can't get the 4th score. Gotta raise that floor. Carding a +3 hurts our chances of going low for sure. Par 3s destroyed us. +11 as a team.

Still, right in it, would be surprised if Utah can keep this pace up even though they are a very good team. There number 1, Jimenez, is also, like Jackson, having one of the best seasons in college golf and he is only a sophmore.

Well if Utah keeps this pace it is gonna be trouble. Long way to go and so much can change in a count 4 format, doesn't take long for a 5 shot sewing to occur. But the Utes are playing tremendous so far.

Yep...it's a guessing game for Small. Ethan Wilson playing well as a non scorer(-3) while the 2 frosh are both +4 as scorers. It appears the inability to avoid big numbers(double bogeys or worse) is killing the Illini. Frosh Buttress is really struggling playing as a non scorer +27. He's had numerous doubles, triples and worse. Guess he's struggling big time with his swing. Hoping they can finish strong for a top 5.

The snuck into a T-5, could've been a solo if not for a late bogey by Trey on his 18th hole.

It really is a guessing game for Small right now, probably more of a qualifying game for that final spot. Before the break Ethan was coming off his best tourney in the numbers and I would have pegged him to be in the top 5 for this one also. However, Birdwell played even better as an individual at that same tourney. Now Ethan plays great as an individual. Honestly, playing as an individual takes a level of pressure off you so that only goes so far when choosing a top 5. I am certain Small is going with some sort of Qualifying for these open spots. If Ethan was in for Birdwell this week and performed the way he did, again not a given at all, we are 12 strokes lower and the worst counting scores we have were two +1. That is what this team needs, raise that floor. Because our ceiling with Jackson and Max is very high. And Voois is one of those guys that might struggle for a round or two and then go low. Trey so far this year has been a steady around par guy, struggled a bit with a couple +3 this tourney, we could somebody besides him to be that floor guy. I still think it is Ethan but obviously Small sees what these guys are doing during practice and qualifying rounds.

This wont hurt us much ranking wise, but would have liked a better performance, off to the next one, Southern Highlands, always a stacked field there.

Big Illini golf fan here, but my interest is slowly dwindling.

I have no idea what's happening.
