Pierce Hunt with a rarity in golf....I believe he was tied for the lead after the first round on the Latin Americas Tour at 8 under par. Then helped by back to back double bogeys shot plus 2 in the second round and actually missed the cut! Tommy Kuhl at -10 made the cut.

The Illinois Open is underway at Flossmoor GC with a strong Illini presence. Some notables as Round 2 is just starting up (looks like it's 3 rounds total):

T1 Tommy Kuhl -4
T4 Matthis Besard -3
T8 Luke Guthrie -2
T13 Dylan Meyer -1
T33 Mike Small +1
T52 Michael Feagles +2
T52 Larry Blatt +2

If Dylan Meyer got into the field at the KFT Pinnacle Bank Championship this week he was going to stay at my house so I'm kind of bummed about that.

He lost in a playoff last year at the Illinois Open.

Ben Crane, one of the "golf boys" will be staying instead. His caddie is dealing with Freddy in Florida so I'm going to loop for him this afternoon for a practice round. Thankfully it's only 70 degrees out.

A couple of notes from the pro tours:

- Thanks to a strong season, Thomas Detry has qualified for the BMW Championship, which also locks him into all signature events next season. He is currently 40th in Fedex Cup points, so to qualify for the Tour Championship he will have to play well enough this weekend to get inside the Top 30.

- Timmy Crawford has qualified for the first leg of the KFT Finals in Boise, which is a great accomplishment given he only played a few events. He is #144 in KFT points, so he'd have to maintain that to make the next event (Field sizes are 156, 144, 120 and 75, respectively, for the four playoff events). If he can finish strong, he has a shot of making the KFT next year - Top 75 are fully exempt, Top 100 are conditionally exempt. Brian Campbell will be playing in Boise as well - he is already in the PGA Tour next year but has a shot at the #1 spot if he can pull out a win.

I think a little more needs to made of this, 31 year old grinder that has never giving up get his card and high priority! Would love to see Brian have a stretch of years on tour, I will be following this for sure throughout the season. it will give me a reason to pay attention to the tour again.

Agreed 1000%. A few years back he had to fight just to get KFT starts. Great to see Brian make it back to the tour, hopefully he can notch that first win. Also it gives hope to guys like Luke Guthrie and Dylan Meyer who are still in the grind and refuse to give up.

PGA Tour Q-School is underway, with first stage wrapping up this week. Here is where the Illini stand:

Advanced to Second Stage: Hunt, Meyer, Feagles, Crawford
Failed to advance: Kuhl, Goecke, Ji, Gillard

In addition to the four above, Luke Guthrie is exempt into Second Stage due to his past Tour performance. Second Stage will take place in late-Nov/early-Dec.

Another one to watch will be ADC, who has work to do to get back into the Tour. Adrien is currently at 173rd in Fedex Cup standings, and would have to get to at least 150th to get conditional tour status (125th for a full exemption), with three tournaments remaining. He would go right to Final Stage of Q-School if he falls short (I think).

I am a little surprised at AdC missing so many cuts, I feel he is our next tour pro and thought he would be more solid quick. Hope for a big finish here and he sneaks in some status because I feel with opportunity he can really get it done.

AdC with an opportunity to gain some ground today. He is running out of time for sure and something truly low today could put him in position for a late charge at a card. 125-150 get conditional status at the end of the fall, top 125 get full status. AdC started at 175.

I think he at least needs a 67/68 today to make meaningful ground in the race. Something like a 65 could jump him maybe 20ish spots, maybe more depending on how it shakes out. A top 5 would be huge for him but he has a lot of work to get there. Better golf out of him however which is a start.
