After posting a -2 today, ADC currently in a 3-way tie for 6th going in the weekend. Currently projecting 130th, so he has work to do to get back into the top 5.

Rough day for Nick Hardy, going home after firing a 76. Though he won't finish in the top-125, he will retain his PGA Tour Card thanks to his 2023 win (which came with a two-year exemption). Next year will be an important year for Nick.

Unfortunately ADC couldn't break back to the top of the leaderboard, posting a 71 and 68 to finish in the middle of the pack. He will have conditional PGA Tour status next year, which will really limit his opportunities. But the good news is he will have a full exemption for the Korn Ferry Tour next year.

Also a Q-School update: Piercen Hunt failed to advance out of Second Stage last week. The rest of the Second Stage tourneys will take place next week, where Feagles, Meyers, Crawford and possibly Guthrie will play for a shot at the Q-School final. ADC is eligible to advance directly to the final.

The Luke Guthrie comeback has just taken a massive step forward with a big win at the Q-School Second Stage in Florida! As a medalist, he will now regain his Korn Ferry Tour card. This for a guy who has played in exactly one OWGR-sanctioned event over the last two years (2023 KFT Memorial Health, where he missed the cut). I've seen a couple stories about how he's been working hard to get his game back to form despite having no tour status - great to see him get this opportunity and hopefully it only gets better from here!

Final stage will be Dec 12-15 at TPC Sawgrass, and will offer Guthrie a chance to improve his status: 5+ TOUR cards to the top finishers, and 40+ full KFT exemptions for the next best. ADC will also (presumably) be playing to get his card back. Unfortunately four other Illini (Meyer, Hunt, Crawford, Feagles) failed to place in the top-15 in second stage and will not advance.

Feels like a U.S. Open at the Final Stage where Par is a great day...Guth and ADC are +3 and +4 at the midway point, but only eight golfers are under par. Still work to do, but both are within striking range. Hoping for a strong finish, especially with a Tour Card on the line!

Note that top 5 and ties get a Tour Card, then the next 40 and ties pick up full KFT status. For Guthrie this would still be an improvement, since he has more limited KFT status next year. ADC already has full status, so the only improvement would be getting to the top 5.

ADC made a run at the card with a pair of 67s, but ultimately fell two strokes short at T8. Guthrie finished at T64, so he did not improve on his status. Here is the current status of all Illini for 2025:

PGA Tour:
Thomas Detry - Fully exempt including all Signature Events, Players, Masters, PGA Championship
Nick Hardy - Fully exempt thru 2025 in "Tournament Winners" category
Brian Campbell - Exemption through KFT promotion

Korn Ferry Tour:
Adrien Dumont de Chassard - Full exemption
Luke Guthrie - Exempt thru second re-shuffle (first 8 events)
D.A. Points - Age 48-49 exemption (bridge to PGA Champions, where he'll be eligible starting in 2027)

DP World Tour:
Thomas Detry - Fully exempt (on both PGA and DPWT)

DP World Challenge Tour:

Matthis Besard - Failed to retain DP World status, but fully exempt on feeder tour

LIV Golf:
Thomas Pieters - Under contract

PGA Champions:
Steve Stricker - Not sure on the details, but after his historic 2023 season he can probably play anywhere he wants until he hangs it up

As far as the rest, it looks like they'll have to use Monday qualifying or sponsor exemptions to get any starts (unless I missed someone). PGA Americas has a set of qualifiers prior to the Canada leg (May/June timeframe); PGA Tour and KFT have Monday qualifiers for all "Open" tournaments. Looks like this will be the case for Crawford, Kuhl, Feagles, Meyer, Hunt and probably a few others. From what I can tell, Ji and Goecke are also still active but have maintained their amateur status.

Also, Jackson Buchanan is currently 6th in the PGA University rankings and can secure KFT status upon graduation if he remains within the top 10.

$750K payout for Thomas...not bad
Great start to the season for Thomas, definitely handled himself well against a stacked field! Should bode well for him in the future Signature Events as well as the majors. He also climbed to 57th in world ranking - if he can become a mainstay in the top 50 he can guarantee himself in every major.

This week is the Sony Open. Detry is slated to start, and will be joined by Nick Hardy and Brian Campbell.

Detry makes cut at Sony Open but well down the leaderboard after round 3. Hardy missed the cut and Campbell withdraws after a good first round(-3) due to illness. What a bummer...having to WD in his first tournament.

Nice start by Luke Guthrie in the opening KFT tournament in the Bahamas. Currently is T13 after firing a 65, which means he will make his first cut since June 2022. Hopefully a sign of things to come! Tourney runs Sun-Wed.

Detry finished at T53 at the Sony Open. This weekend's action:

PGAT: The American Express (La Quinta, CA): Nick Hardy, Brian Campbell
DPWT: Hero Dubai Desert Classic (UAE): Thomas Pieters, Adrien Dumont de Chassard
KFT: Great Abaco Classic (Bahamas, Jan 19-22): Luke Guthrie, D.A. Points

My pet project this year is following Brian Campbell, and very nice 67 today to make the cut. Not in the mix, but another 67 or so and we are looking at a good start to his season.

Oddly pulled out of Sony after a nice 67 to start due to illiness. I imagine he had to be seriously ill.

Apologies if this has been posted before, although YouTube says it was just posted yesterday.

Golf Digest did a special on The Golf facilities and it showcases pure gold. Never diminish the level Mike Small is at...he should be held in the same height as BU and BB.

Wow.

Wild day for Luke Guthrie at the KFT Abaco Classic:

Nine birdies on that card. Still shot a 67 despite a triple on #9. End result is a T5 finish, putting him in solid shape after the second Korn Ferry event. He is guaranteed eight starts before the reshuffle, and he's making the most of the opportunity. Congrats Luke!

The Farmer's Insurance Open kicked off today at Torrey Pines - Detry, Hardy and Campbell are all in the field. Tomorrow will be ADC's first tournament of the year, as he will join Pieters at the DP World event in UAE.
