Bulls remaining schedule after the All-Star break is brutal. They still have to play Milwaukee 3 times, Cleveland and Miami twice, and still have to play at Utah and at Phoenix.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Chicago Bulls are waiving Alfonzo McKinnie. They will then sign Tristan Thompson, according to Charania.
McKinnie was in his first season with the Bulls, and appeared in 17 games this season.

He is averaging 3.5 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. Prior to the Bulls he has also played for the Toronto Raptors, Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers.
As for Thompson, he was traded from the Sacramento Kings to the Indiana Pacers last week.
The Pacers released him on Thursday.

Is this a good move by the Bulls ?

Yes, because they didn't waive Malcolm Hill.

Yeah. Their backup center depth behind Vuc has been pretty much nothing. Guys like Tony Bradley and Tyler Cook are perfectly fine players but they don't really help the team that much.

Good to hear Brad's take on Ayo's success. It was a bit odd that the writer framed Ayo as not having the "pure offensive skills" that many other college players had - Ayo was second in the Big Ten in scoring, a first team AA, won many awards, including the best PG in america - so to frame him as this "coming out of nowhere with limited ability in college" is just not true

He was one of the best players in all of college basketball last year and is now one of the best rookies in the NBA, it really shouldn't be that much of a surprise

It does fly in the face of so many of the "analytics picks" which teams are now doing which is purely looking at athletic and physical traits and translating that to success in the NBA - e.g. Patrick Williams who the Bulls picked #4 the year before after not starting for his college team and averaging 9 pts/game - but he tested well and had the physical tools that translate to success.

Essentially it boils down to --> because Ayo can't jump out of the gym, he was a second round pick - I think teams will start to rethink how they draft and have more balance to the weighting of traits they covet and not just pick the freak athletes
Though not quite fair comparison, this reminds me of Stephen Curry when NBA Draft analysts commented on Curry's lack of athleticism and were skeptical if he'd make it at the NBA level. Granted, Curry was drafted 7th in the 1st round. I'd argue Ayo is far more athletic than Curry yet was drafted in the 2nd round. Meyers Leonard, the 11th pick in the 1st round, had a relatively nice draft report which listed his athleticism for his size as a strength, hasn't faired too well.

Ayo’s Advice was to Kofi was...

1. Don’t look at mock drafts.

2. What separates you is the work you put in.

3. The whole coaching staff is there to help you get better.

He left out Number 4: Come play with me on the Bulls.

And Number 5: Hey Trent? We’re both waiting...
