Illini in the Pros (Basketball)

I don’t understand why they aren’t utilizing him more, I know they have other young talent, but still.

They should trade him for a vet or picks at this point
They want to compete this year and their assessment, whether we agree or not, is that he is a defensive liability and that he's a good scorer, but not as efficient as he should be on that end.

They won't trade him for now because injuries are inevitable and he's a good, cost effective option to jump into the rotation when that happens. Maybe a trade near the deadline if they are doing well and see the opportunity to land an impact piece.

Kind of a bad situation to be in. He just has to wait for his opportunity (it will come) and prove himself when that happens.

And critically that's the exact same profile as Dybantsa, who understandably is the higher priority as the #1 pick.

It's a weird jumble of a roster, these things happen. He caught the eye last year, his opportunity will come around again, like it did for TSJ.

The day 1 buy-in Ayo got from Billy Donovan is actually pretty rare.

The Clippers are genuinely terrible.

Back to back losses after blowing huge leads. Absolutely zero cohesiveness at the end of games.

Hopefully Keaton is the franchise guy. It's looking like the sole hope for the organization moving forward.

Show me a coach who is past his prime and is out of touch with today's NBA...... "hold my beer"- Ty Lue.
Not sure it's a past his prime problem. Don't think Lue would have ever been the one for this job (and honestly don't have that high an opinion of him at any point in his career).

The guy won a championship because LeBron was peak LeBron and had a great supporting case and Lue got the job (thanks to LeBron). David Blatt, who got fired in order for Lue to have the job, actually had a better record that season than Lue did (30-11 vs 27-14). And then his Kahwi Clippers teams were pretty meh until they got Harden. In the last five seasons he's missed the playoffs twice and been bounced in first round 3x.

I think the most generous thing you can say about Lue is that he's a decent coach when he has a a couple superstar players on his team. He's not the guy you want in a rebuild, developing young talent.
