Illini Soccer 2026

#2

#5

Being ignorant of soccer - I say Illinois controlled the ball far more than Georgia. Georgia was just bigger and more physical on defense which lead to mainly shot attempts that were kinda weak for Illinois. But the same on the opposite end, Georgia got off very few good shot attempts.

If Georgia is truly #19, Illinois soccer is also a top #20 team.

For a 0-0 tie that was about as entertaining as it gets with some decent chances by both sides!and this game could have easily been a 2-2 tie. By my eye the Illini were the better team in the 1st half but Georgia was better after halftime. Overall an even matchup and good early season test for both teams. Go Illini!

And here is the first goal, a rocket.

Finished tied 1-1.

The players are more athletic than those at the end of Janet's reign. From what I have seen this year thus far they are less technical & clinical.

I am not convinced Katie has a group she trusts beyond (maybe) the starting 11. Subs were all over the place today.

I don't yet recognize a style of play for this group, and that could be due to the influx of key transfers. It takes time, and a single season may not be enough. I will have to look at the roster to see how many of the transfers are in their final year.

I wanna gripe at the individual defending and lack of discipline with their lines, but the team is fun to watch regardless, so will avoid whining further. :)

Still undefeated!
